Don't get me wrong, robust methodologies are essential, but the real skill lies in assessing the need and adapting your approach. That's how you stay confident even when things change under your feet.

Be the bridge. The coming change may be a big one which will cause a divide between ‘new’ and ‘traditional’ approaches. Carve yourself out as the bridge between both camps, it’s helpful and in the end that’s where reality lies: in the middle. Anyone who says AI will tell us what and how to change is wrong, and anyone who says nothing will replace the human elements is wrong. In the end this will continually change at an increasing pace, so I say: be the bridge.
