What do you do if you struggle with emotional intelligence and empathy in temporary and contract work?

Here are some steps you can take: 1. Self-awareness 2. Self-regulation 3. Empathy: Put yourself in others' shoes and try to understand their perspectives and feelings. 4. Social skills: Practice active listening, assertiveness, and conflict resolution techniques. 5. Feedback: Ask for feedback from colleagues or supervisors about your interpersonal skills. 6. Practice: Make an effort to empathize with others in your daily interactions, both at work and in your personal life. Why did I react that way to the compliment my colleague gave me? Why do I get angry when xyz happens? Why am I anxious around Mr/Ms xyz? Questions like these helps you know yourself better. Better knowledge of yourself will help you to understand the reason for your emotions. Understanding the reason will help you to show yourself compassion rather than hate yourself. Showing yourself compassion makes it easier to work on yourself. Emotional intelligence is key to success in interpersonal rlships but it all begins with having a good intrapersonal relationship.

The first step to knowing oneself is to be aware of your strengths and weaknesses. By knowing this, you find confidence in your strengths and seek help in your weaknesses, embrace them and work on them. Taking note of these will make you mindful of yourself. Surround yourself with positive people who’ll provide valuable feedback on your strengths and weaknesses and help you overcome the latter.

Some ways to get started: - adopt a people-first mindset, meaning putting the person as a human before the work when there is the flexibility to do so (which generally is most of the time) - offer support to those that are struggling. Often times withdrawal or silence can be indicative of this. - remember psychological safety as a cornerstone to emotional intelligence - if there isn’t that sense of safety, the likelihood of connection regarding emotions is low.

Find someone you admire for their emotional intelligence and seek guidance from them. Read books and articles. There are many resources available on emotional intelligence. Explore books, articles, and websites to learn new strategies and perspectives.

Learn from the best in the field you seek help in. Listen to them frequently, monitor their positive behaviors and how they carry themselves around, get closer to them and build a good relationship with them. They could become a coach, mentor or supervisor. Ask them specific questions concerning emotional intelligence. Also, explore the internet as there are so many agencies providing tips and insights on how to become more emotionally intelligent and be more empathetic.

Identify individuals who demonstrate high levels of emotional intelligence and empathy in their interactions. Observe how they communicate, empathize, and manage their emotions in various situations. Pay attention to their body language, tone of voice, and choice of words. Practice active listening skills when interacting with others. Focus on understanding the speaker's emotions, perspectives, and needs. Reflect back what you've heard to ensure you've understood correctly. This demonstrates empathy and helps build rapport

Take short breaks to focus on your breath. Notice the sensation of your breath entering and leaving your body. When engaged in everyday activities, pay close attention to the sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and textures around you. This simple practice helps ground you in the present moment. By being mindful of your emotions, you can detach from them and respond more thoughtfully instead of reacting impulsively.

Mindfulness, the only key to embrace, feel and appreciate the present moment. This can be done by being more calm and aware of your surroundings that is, what emotions are you feeling now?, what can you see around you, how do you feel towards them, what sounds do you hear, what smell revolves around and also, practice frequent breathing exercises. This will relieve stress, reduce anxiety and negative emotions thus improving focus, empathy and understanding.

When eating, try to focus fully on the experience. Notice the taste, texture, and smell of your food. Pay attention to your body's hunger and fullness cues. Take a walk outside and pay attention to each step. Notice the sensations of the ground beneath your feet, the movement of your body, and the sights and sounds around you.

Set aside dedicated time each day for mindfulness practice. This could be as little as 5-10 minutes to begin with, gradually increasing as you become more comfortable. One of the simplest mindfulness practices is focusing on your breath. Sit or lie down comfortably and pay attention to each inhale and exhale. Start at your toes and gradually move your awareness up through your body, noticing any sensations or areas of tension. This can help you become more aware of how your body responds to emotions.

Work in Cooperation and a clean environment: To understand each other's opinions and thoughts, cooperation is a great channel that helps us to do things in a much faster way and with efficient output. It increases our adaptability to do contract and temporary work. Understanding co-workers and people around us from the soul is very important in a clean and positive environment. That is something that connects to emotional intelligence and empathy- Cooperation and mutual agreements in the work environment. That minimises difficulties during temporary and contract-based work.
