What do you do if you need to think outside the box for effective problem-solving in database development?

For me I will start with the basics. To be honest, there is no outside the box environment if the box does not exist. You will need some guiding questions? 1. Is the database for transactional or analytical operations? This will determine the limits for normalization. 2. Will there be a front-end built for entry and manipulation of data in the db? This will determine the level of security risk the db will be exposed to. 3. What is the expected traffic to and from the db now and in the future? This will help with scalability and availability considerations. These 3 questions are basics but they open the door to the out-side-the-box thinking. START HERE!!!

The best approach is to fragment the problems to smaller bits and try to address those small problems. Uncertain problems help bring creative solutions to light. When you break down such problems into smaller chunks, you can use the fundamentals to solve it. Converting complex problems statements to smaller and answerable questions is the key.

Reading through websites like stackoverflow, where technical problems are discussed till the solution is given by somebody in the community. You may not get the same question at your work, with logic you read in such websites will act has a starting point which will eventually lead to the solution.
