This article was conceived with several points in mind, but all my suggestions and insights can be summarized in one: if you're not yet proficient in a specific NLE software and need to become proficient quickly, consider ivsEdits. It was developed over the last 20 years: it's available in both free and commercial versions, but what's most significant is its ease of learning, despite offering professional editing tools. I was involved in its initial years of development, serving as a tester, and authoring its user guide. You can still find my 11yo tutorials on YouTube, covering nearly everything you might need to know in just an hour. While I now also use DaVinci Resolve and others, I must note that they have a much steeper learning curve.

1. You shouldn't worry on picking an specific Software, they're pretty similar in everything, so later down the road when you try to learn a different tool you just need to adapt your workflow, although, I would advice to go with any industry standard: Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve. While there's many other apps out there, those 3 apps are currently the most used ones, master one and you'll get them all.

Keep it simple, I know we would like to edit cinematic shots or amazing social media or entertainment videos, but keep it simple, go with the basics, nowadays I will say, start editing on 9:16 and go from there to other aspect ratios, since 9:16 is currently the most requested edits on many job offerings, and most of those types of content are pretty good to learn the basics.
