What do you do if you need to lead a permanent team versus a temporary or contract team?

In my experience, managing a diverse mix of permanent and temporary staff has been instrumental in striking the right balance between cost-effectiveness and fostering growth. I treat them as one team, and just define a good RACI to avoid any responsibility creep. Obviously, they are not the same. Nonetheless, they are all humans and require motivation to be productive

Thought some performance KPIs remains the same such as daily targets or the basic hygiene parameters, as a leader one has to focus also on the long terms development of team members when focusing on permanent members. Need is to develop the future leaders who can take the ownership when needed. Whereas for temporary or contractual team members, focus is more on the short term achievements.

Um líder precisa gostar genuinamente de pessoas, porque quanto mais conhecê-las mais conseguirá conectá-las ao negócio. O sucesso de uma empresa acaba sendo apenas "um grande sonho coletivo" que todos precisam estar comprometidos com ele. Entiendo el concepto de adaptación del liderazgo pero no comparto esta aproximación. Es muy dificil desde mi perspectiva tener una aproximación transaccional co cualquier tipo de equipo. La flexibilidad la veo más desde como somo empaticos, entendemos necesidades y gestionamos los recursos más no de como tratamos a las personas. Coherencia y congruencia creo que llevan más lejos.

Según mi experiencia con equipos mixtos (permanente y contratado en el mismo puesto) es importante dentro de las posibilidades que gestionamos tener presente: - Mantener relación salarial (lo más equilibrado posible) - Mismos beneficios generales (fuera de los propios de la empresa) - Mismas responsabilidades (no sobrecargar al contratado o responsabilizar al permanente) - Mismas oportunidades respecto a capacitaciones/entrenamiento (el equipo entero aporta al objetivo) Estos temas aportan mucho a mantener fuera del día a día cualquier diferencia administrativa que representa ser permanente o contratado en un mismo equipo.

1) La definición de roles y responsabilidades desde el primer día es fundamental en todos los miembros del equipo. 2) Las metas y su compensación deben estar relacionadas al tipo de trabajo que se realiza y no al tipo de contrato que opera (permanente vs temporal). 3) La comunicación en todas las fases del proyecto debe ser inclusiva y transparente para todos los miembros de formal tal que haya cohesión y alineación en todos sus miembros.

In my experience managing a mixed team of permanent and temporary members, I actually would say ditch the idea that anyone is permanent, because roles, including yours, change. Everyone should have performance and development targets, regardless how long they'll be on your team. As a leader you have a responsibility to make the experience not only fruitful to the organization but also meaningful to the individual in their journey.

Leading a team which has been hired on merit and has permanent members (internal payroll), contract members (3rd party with 12 months renewal contract) or temporary members (short term contract 3-6 months) is not a problem if all have same salary structure, perks and skill development & career plan. In reality, it is not like that. Companies usually more invest in internal (permanent employees) rather 3rd party either it is short term (3-6 months) contract members or long term (12 months) contract because they are not actually companies employees but when it comes about services delivery then they are fully accountable.
