What do you do if you need help preparing for interviews during a career change?

"What is the organization's vision for the future, and how can I contribute to its achievement?" This question reflects your interest in the job and your inner drive for shared success. The interviewing team can share vision and plans with you, providing an opportunity for you to showcase how you can leverage your talents and experiences to help realize this vision. Make sure to ask specific questions and align your responses with your career and personal interests. Direct your strategic questions to gain a better understanding of the job and the business, and to prove your willingness to contribute and grow in the job.

Go to a subject matter expert. There are individuals who will train and prepare you for an interview. Make use of their services. Speak to an accountability partner or your mentor Ask yourself very important questions. How much do I need this job? What difference will getting this job make in my career? Asking key questions can help you refocus and it will help you prepare. Go ahead and read up interesting informations about that organization and prepare yourself to wow the panel and that will keep you excited. You can even choose to prepare for the interview from the place of self satisfaction. You know that satisfaction that comes with you knowing that you have done very well in an interview. Encourage yourself to be intentional.

Identifying and clarifying the areas where you need help can be the first step. Basic interview needs can range from controlling panic and stress, giving effective and powerful answers to questions, tone of voice during the interview and being prepared for unexpected questions. Preparation about the company and role is a must. It definitely helps to study possible and typical interview questions. It would be good to work on these processes together with a career coach and to practice role plays. Remember, interviews are also opportunities for you to learn about the company, the culture and the role. It is therefore useful to prepare your own questions and ask them whenever you have the opportunity in the interview.

Am Anfang jeder beruflichen Ver?nderung steht Selbstkenntnis. Schlie?lich geht es weniger darum, dem au?en zu "genügen", sondern aus innerer Klarheit heraus punkten zu k?nnen. Es geht nicht darum, sich ein "Mascherl umzubinden", um zu gefallen. Hast du dich klar, haben dich die anderen klar. Zutrauen in seine Kompetenzen, Talente, M?glichkeiten zu haben. Auf der anderen Seite Grenzen einsch?tzen zu k?nnen. Wie wirke ich gerne - auf der Bühne oder im Hintergrund? Was kann ich besonders gut? Wie arbeite ich gerne - im Team oder alleine? Welches Umfeld passt zu mir? Sich selbst wieder nachzuspüren, um sich über dieses Wissen den M?glichkeiten am Markt zu n?hern und sicher in Gespr?che einzusteigen, halte ich für essenziell.

Preparing for interviews is important but even more critical if you’re interviewing for a role that involves a career shit. Research the new industry or role you are moving to. Learn the industry you’re transitioning into, including market trends, key players, and challenges. Learn about the company you’re interviewing for in terms of market reputation and competitors. Familiarize yourself with the terminology, tools, and technologies commonly used in the new role. Most importantly be ready to highlight your transferable skills and experience that are relevant to the position or industry you are interviewing for. Note and relate stories where you effectively demonstrated the required and preferred qualifications.

Transitioning to a new career path can appear challenging, particularly when your previous experience may seem unrelated to the new role. However, rather than viewing this negatively, it is beneficial to maintain a positive outlook by highlighting key strengths that could be advantageous in the new position, despite lacking specific experience. For example, having the ability to handle ambiguity implies that you can effectively manage stakeholders and transform vague concepts into tangible outcomes.

Auch hier gehe ich gerne den umgekehrten Weg. Finde heraus welchen Werten du dich verbunden fühlst. In welchem Umfeld du aufblühst. Welche Menschen du um dich haben willst. Was deinem Typ entspricht. Auch im beruflichen Kontext gilt: jeder Topf findet einen Deckel. Klar kannst du dich von Homepages, Employer Branding Anzeigen bzw. Videos, Stellenausschreibungen inspirieren lassen und spüren, wie diese auf dich wirken. Glaube mir - es ist nur ein riesiger Unterschied, wenn du aus einer sicheren, klaren Basis heraus Fragen stellen kannst und über deine Klarheit das Gespr?ch führst.

üben und noch einmal üben. Davon halte ich viel. Bedürfnisse, Kompetenzen, Talente, eigene Grenzen, Umgang mit Misserfolgen, uvm. benennen zu lernen haben wir z.T. verlernt. Vor allem, wenn wir nicht nur Plattitüden von uns geben wollen, um zu gefallen. Sondern echt und authentisch bleiben wollen im Gespr?ch. Sich im Vorfeld mit einer geübten Person auf Bewerbungsprozesse, Audits oder Assessments vorzubereiten gibt Sicherheit und Zutrauen. Ich liebe in diesem Zusammenhang die Achse von Coaching & Mentoring. Mein Expertenwissen aus der jahrelangen Suche & Auswahl von Mitarbeiter:innen, meine Kenntnisse über Organisationen, M?rkte, Jobprofile und auch Ansprüche ist gerade, was berufliche Ver?nderungsthemen betrifft, oftmals sehr hilfreich.

Feedback ist essenziell, um seine Selbstsicht mit Fremdsicht abzugleichen. Was von mir wirkt am st?rksten ins au?en? Was von mir sieht man in meinem Umfeld? Ich finde hier eine übung von Markus H?ngstschl?ger, unter anderem Autor des Buches "L?sungsbegabung", sehr hilfreich. Frage 5 Menschen, aus unterschiedlichem Lebenskontexten, um ehrliches Feedback: Freunde:innen, Kollegen:innen, Führungs:kr?fte, Kunden:innen,... vielleicht m?gen sie dir skizzieren, in welchen konkreten Situationen sie dich so oder so erlebt haben. Diese Informationen helfen dir noch einmal mehr, dich in Interviewsituationen beschreiben und konkrete Situationen benennen zu k?nnen. Und natürlich kann durch Simulieren von Interviews an deinem Stil gefeilt werden.

Preparing for a senior-level job interview is crucial, given how high the stakes are for everyone. Organizations have higher expectations for these positions, and candidates undergo psychometrics, assessment centers and interviews. It is essential to be genuine, credible, and competent with executive presence and influence. As part of succession planning, I have assessed and coached C-suite candidates. A gap I tend to see is that candidates need to speak at an executive level, irrespective of their experience and not ramble. It is crucial to have concise specific examples, and be able to articulate impact. A coach can provide feedback on your ability to convey clarity, conviction, and effective communication.

Nehmen Sie Probedurchl?ufe Ihrer Antworten auf Video auf. So k?nnen Sie Mimik, Gestik und die Wirkung Ihrer Antworten analysieren. Verbessern Sie so Ihr nonverbale Kommunikation und identifizieren Sie Lücken in Ihren Antworten. Feedback von sich selbst ist zwar anders als von externen Quellen, kann aber dennoch sehr effektiv sein.

A mentor, or professional coach who understands the industry you're moving into cab help you practice a mock interview. Set up a session where they can role-play the part of the interviewer, providing both typical and challenging questions. For example, they might ask, "What motivated your shift into this new field?" or "How do your previous experiences prepare you for this specific role?" After the mock interview, ask for detailed feedback on your answers, body language, and overall demeanor. This practice will not only prepare you for the types of questions to expect but also help refine your presentation and narrative about your career change, making you a more compelling candidate in actual interviews.

“Repetition is the mother of skill”. The more practice we can get through (preferably) mock interviews or even real interviews, the more prepared we will be to tell our authentic story in the most impactful way Just today, myself and a colleague received some impromptu “sales coaching” from the founder of a leading training business. It was incredible to be put on the spot, unprepared and practice our intro and pitch. Something that would take much trial and error to perfect. The same with interviews

Mock interviews with a COMPETENT and perceptive interviewer can be extremely beneficial. If you are able to practise your interviewing skills with someone who: ◇ has a holistic or detailed understanding for the role you intend to step into ◇ is articulate and able to discern the appropriate questions, appreciate the nuances that orbit your target career and can hone in on your verbal and non verbal communication during practise sessions ◇ can provide clear, honest feedback in a solution oriented manner to you, ...it can be priceless in your preparation journey. Based on their input and feedback you will be clear on what you need to research, be qualified in, on what your opportunities for improvement are etc.

The key aspect to preparing for the interview is to learn from the feedback received from others. We will only improve if we consistently work on ourselves. It is also important to reflect after each interview. Whether we hear from them for the next round or not, it is important to reflect on how the interview went and what could have been done differently and prepare accordingly for the next stages

Be sure you can speak to your accomplishments in a way that connect them to financial outcomes, employee retention, building stronger customer relationships etc.

A career coach (or leadership or executive coach) can help you with all the necessities listed here. Coaches help you clarify goals and targets, determine priorities, make and implement action plans, and ensure you are accountable to yourself. They may help you question your motives, confront perceived limits or missteps and pivot, and help you look at what you're doing realistically. That's to help you polish your talents and get you past perfectionism and on to progress. They will also encourage you and celebrate Wins with you. With the right coach, it's all about supporting you to make yourself better as you define that.

Um sich selbst noch einmal mehr in die Klarheit zu bekommen sind meiner Erfahrung nach Potenzialanalysen sehr hilfreich. Neben vielen anderen angewendeten Potenzialanalysen, arbeite ich derzeit sehr gerne mit Human Design. Es zeigt auf, mit was du ursprünglich ausgestattet worden bist - von Geburt weg -, um dieses Leben zu "meistern". Es gibt dir ein Bild an die Hand, wer du bist bevor dir die Welt erz?hlt hat, wer du zu sein hast. Hypothesen also, die dich in einen wunderbaren, tiefen Reflexionsprozess führen und in spannende Auseinandersetzung mit dir, deinem Blick auf die Welt, deinen Motivwelten und deiner Wirkung auf andere.

Find a co-working space (preferably) with people that are like minded. So you can create moments before and after work and when having a break to connect, share and get inspired

Know the company you’re interviewing for. Not just their name…know their objectives. Do enough research to come into an interview with constructive feedback and ways you can tangibly help the company move the ball forward. Connect with the people interviewing you on LinkedIn. Introduce yourself before your interview. Follow up with them after. It’ll show you want it. That goes far in people’s minds today.
