When it comes to building skills, I have found it transformative to go to the basics of the concepts and build a strong foundation in the basics. This helps understand the problems in detail. From there, learning modelling skills, be it in excel or python, provides amazing venues to build and test solutions for problems that you can now identify. These two skills together will make you 10x more equipped to create path breaking solutions.

I over prepare to make sure I really know everything about my subject. I have never been good at making up the answers. Then I force myself to get out there and try, and now my my speaking skills are improving.

Sharing your knowledge is awesome, even if public speaking isn't your jam. Here's how I, a fellow introvert, deal: Small wins first: Skip the giant keynote and start with poster sessions. Chat with people about your research – it's a low-pressure way to get your voice out there. Practice makes progress: Rehearse your talk beforehand, even if it's just to your dog (they're good listeners, and the judgement is minimal). Focus on the passion: Remember why you're there! Sharing your love for renewable energy can be contagious (and way more exciting than talking about the weather). Remember, even a quiet voice can have a big impact. You got this!

Speaking out loud helps you get comfortable with the flow of your words and allows you to identify areas that may need improvement. Time your practice sessions to ensure that your talk fits within the allocated time slot. Aim to leave some buffer for pauses, audience interaction, and potential questions. Record yourself practicing your talk using a smartphone or a video camera. Watch the recording afterward to assess your delivery, body language, tone of voice, and overall presentation style. Take note of any areas for improvement.

In my experience, preparing on the topics before hand and carrying some notes or referring to them while you speak is always a good idea.

From personal experience we can all improve our public speaking. Seeking feedback and discussing with audience members on where you went well or could improve will be valuable input for the next time. If your session went badly, or there were technical problems, try to not let this bother you too much. Pick yourself up and try again next time, making use of that feedback to improve.

Have an open mind to received a feedback from you mentors or those who knows, be humble you don’t have to know about everything. Take notes and improve yourself.

Once you are finished with your performance, make sure to ask for feedbacks. It is very important for your future improvements. The audience will guide you not only in the direction on what to say next time, but based on their reaction, you will be able to recognize, if you were understood in the way, you were supposed to.

Don't be afraid to reach out for support and feedback from colleagues, mentors, or public speaking coaches. Constructive feedback helps identify areas for improvement and provides validation for your strengths. Surround yourself with a supportive network that encourages and uplifts you on your journey to confidence.

Networking is a key component in being a success in communicating in the renewable energy field. Renewable energy isn't "one thing" and cuts across a variety of technologies, industries and sectors. By networking across these different technology groups and industries you'll be able to apply your technical understanding to real life problems and bring breadth to your solutions.

As humans, our ability to thrive in any sphere of our lives is usually intertwined with how well we resonate with the community around us. I avoid most conferences, they tend to be a waste of time.......go to the bar afterwards and target who you want to meet. Talk to them, see who else is around that you would like to meet, talk to them and go home. It will save you a lot of time and money

To boost confidence and public speaking skills: practice regularly, know your material, visualize success, use positive affirmations, focus on breathing, start strong, engage the audience, accept imperfection, seek feedback, and celebrate success.
