In my experience, facilitating communication in a formal setting is the best way to resolve issues, reaffirm goals, and to move forward with collegiality, shared purpose and trust. As a trained conflict mediator, I find that the best way to bring people together is on neutral ground. Implementing guidelines for the mediation which include, but are not limited to, active listening and expressing opinions and feelings with total honesty will ensure a positive outcome. Your role as mediator is to remain objective and keep the conversation on a positive track. In my career, I have used this approach with students, teachers, parents and upper management, resulting in high problem resolution and very low probability of the problem recurring.
