First, break it down using the HOW-WHY-WHEN-WHAT framework: Cover the history of AI, HOW it was developed, WHY it was created, WHEN it’s best to start using it, and WHAT benefits it can offer. Most importantly, make sure people understand how to stay protected from potential threats.

Launch educational initiatives to inform the public about AI technology, its capabilities, applications, benefits, and potential risks. These campaigns could include workshops, seminars, online courses, free sources like YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc. Informational websites, and public forums.

Educate - Create and share informative content about AI’s benefits and risks through blogs, videos, and social media. Simplify - Use simple, relatable language to explain complex AI concepts to a non-technical audience. Engage - Participate in community events, webinars, and public forums to discuss AI technologies openly. How we inform the public about AI is key. When we learn to cook, at first we follow recipes step by step, but with time and practice we learn to adjust the ingredients to our liking, exactly how machine learning allows AI to "learn" from data. The use of metaphors helps demystify AI, showing it as a tool that, although powerful, requires human guidance and adjustment. Highlighting the benefits of personalized medicine, such as the impact on employment, provides a balanced picture. Both at my university and in open seminars, my goal is to foster an informed society prepared to navigate the AI era with knowledge and confidence. This balance between education and engagement is vital to cultivating a well-informed and nuanced perception of AI.

This analogy highlights the potential of AI while emphasizing the need for human oversight, similar to carrying an umbrella based on the forecast. Through teaching and public engagement, I emphasize the balance between leveraging AI for progress, such as streamlining healthcare, and vigilance against its ethical pitfalls, such as privacy concerns. I seek that society, in addition to understanding how AI works, also actively participates in shaping its ethical use.

Navigating changing technology at a rapid pace can be nauseating for most people, including experts. Though the industry may say otherwise, you need to simplify your solution and avoid jargon to ensure mass adoption. Not every ML solution is 'artificially intelligent' and avoiding labelling it as such makes it much easier to understand for the general public. Simple is almost always better!

For me personally, I often underestimate the gap in knowledge for professionals versus someone that isn't in AI. I'm around colleagues and clients talking about this on a day-to-day basis whereas my neighbor might not know what ChatGPT is.
