What do you do if fostering creativity in higher education seems impossible?

One can effectively & efficiently utilize the different ICT tools (information & communication technology) for leveraging the benefit to foster the creativity. also one can go with experiential learning through practical's, skills, tutorials that boost students creativity & their involvement within the classroom.

Revel in the fact that you get to meet an entire batch of different humans multiple times a year and trust them to have new ideas and perspectives to bring to the table - then give them room, through getting to know them, creating assignments with choices, etc. - to share those ideas and perspectives. Also find ways to bring joy and humor into your classroom - those qualities help create space for creativity.

Educators may feel daunted when asked to ‘be creative’ if they aren’t given clear guidance. Creativity is often misunderstood; it's not as complicated as it's made out to be. At its core, creativity in education is about introspection and simplification: asking oneself, ‘How would I make sense of this complex issue?’ or ‘How can I break this down?’ It’s about trying new ways to explain concepts. That’s all creativity is — it’s not mysterious or exclusive knowledge, but more like walking barefoot on grass to truly feel its texture underfoot.

Introduce diverse perspectives and experiences into the curriculum with the support and involvement of Industry and Research Institutions. This can help broaden students' thinking and inspire new ideas to develop incubation and center of excellence in their domain of interest.

Collaboration offers an opportunity for creativity to develop in individual or group. Innovations attract combine efforts from diversities of the team and foster integrative interactions. Group assignments and projects build team spirit and create diversity and inclusiveness. Collaboration communicates strength for cross-disciplinary effort required to promote diversification, interactive process and interconnectedness of globalized knowledge society. Therefore, build teamwork by encouraging healthy collaborations while downplaying the negativity of isolationism and ineptitude.

Implement facilitation techniques and group dynamics to create the proper scenario for the creativity to arise. There are countless activities and ideas to explore, we just need to pay attention and accompany the group to discover how to activate their own creativity and expand their boundaries. In my experience, playful techniques are proven to be really efficient.

Students are inherently going to be more invested in their work if they are intrinsically motivated. This means you need to establish why this topic or assignment matters and how it is relevant to their life. Today's student is more resistant to doing things "just because." They need to hear and believe that the topic or assignment is both relevant and worth their time/effort.

Create an environment that takes stakes off the table and allows the mind to play. Two of the best questions include: 1. If you had a magic wand, what would you do in this situation? 2. What is the worst possible thing we could do in this situation?

Curiosity is the fuel of creativity. Bored students memorizing facts without understanding the context will hardly have innovative ideas. On the other hand, when curiosity is encouraged, magic happens. It's important to provide meaningful learning. By pursuing their interests and questioning what they are learning, the student builds a personal connection with the material. This makes learning deeper and more meaningful.

Be honest with what you want to see. What do you want them to demonstrate. I also share this with my students. For instance, I have them share their final papers with them class, but the outcome is that we can all understand the variety of topics better. A formal presentation doesn’t get me that outcome. So, for that assignment the presentation is leading an informal discussion with their peers.

While the fear of failure can be a significant barrier, creating a safe space for risk-taking can help foster creativity in higher education. Leaders should: 1. Establish an atmosphere to appreciate risk-taking 2. Create a space to provide feedback to help the team learn from risk-taking mistakes 3. Lead by example and share experiences of creativity and innovation (and the lessons learned) Then, their teams can foster creativity through risk-taking by: 1. Experimenting with new technology and teaching methods 2. Fostering inter- and multi-disciplinary collaborations 3. Designing and incorporating project-based learning to solve real-world problems

There was a time, I discussed some topics with my students and I needed to establish that they understood them.The class was divided into groups and each group mandated to think through how to make viable and compelling presentations to boost the understanding of other members in the class. Beating my wildest imagination, students came up with beautifully-crafted and graphically- illustrated pieces that initiated a research process on how to manage a large, herterogenous classroom. That experience taught me a lesson that learners are really not "tabular rasa" given the required enabling opportunities they will beat imaginations and fast track deep and inspirational thinking process that will propel further search.
