Facing hurdles and setbacks while pursuing further education as a leader can be challenging, but it's also an opportunity for growth and resilience. When obstacles arise, I believe in reassessing my strategies, seeking support from mentors or peers, and staying focused on my goals. Each setback is a chance to learn and adapt, ultimately strengthening my leadership skills and determination to succeed.

Challenges will be there in every stage of our life. The only difference is how they will take that, positively or negatively. Every problem has a solution. If you can search for the solution and move through hurdles with a positive mindset then you can overcome it. Grab every possible opportunity coming your way.

In my years of nursing, there definitely have been hurdles as I have been trying to obtain and advance my education, but really the best thing is thinking positive. I truly believe that positive thoughts keep you motivated, focused, moving, and give you the strength to continue. I’m not saying that these positive thoughts are easy to put in your mind because it’s easier to think of the negative things that are happening around you, but with constant practice and awareness, it becomes easier to bring these thoughts to mind.

Mindset sets the tone for your day, week, month, year, etc. Setbacks hurt and sometimes they come out of nowhere. However, realizing the original idea or plan didn't work and making adjustments will only make you stronger. Whatever the obstacles are as you pursue education, this mindset will help you succeed no matter what. One of my favorite sayings is" You either win or you learn."

It is a challenging one. Because as a business leader our environment is very different than of a classroom. I pursued my eMBA 13 years after founding a company. Here are my key takeaways: Leave your job title at home, approach the education as a knowledge seeker with genuine interest in learning more, be humble, it will make you a better leader. You can literally learn from everyone including the people who are learning with your regardless of their job titles. Ego is the opposite of learning. Say no to that. Be open to express your opinions, use this experience as an opportunity for engagement. Always encourage debate and dialogue but in a positive environment. Do not listen to respond but listen to understand. Hope this helps.

I think this question is really unique to the individual. Any of the previous 6 considerations could be MOST important, depending upon circumstances. What I would add: who is your “cheering squad,” your allies, and your support system? Are they family, friends, faculty, staff, peers? I made it through my own program thanks to a huge support system, namely during Covid.
