I would add in addition to understanding the sides of all parties involved, it’s important to go back to your values and common goals. What is the aim? What does a diverse talent pool mean to the company. Input the differences into the equation and discuss which would be the most aligned approach to reach said goals and for such culture. Communication and active listening is key when planning or reevaluating.

From my experience, I think that the right thing to do is to acknowledge the issue ASAP, recognizing the existence of a conflict and taking it seriously. Dismissing or ignoring the situation is never a good strategy as it can escalate quickly, achieving levels of emotions, feelings, sentiments that will be hard to contain later. Next, invite people to engage in open and honest dialogue, listening to all parties involved and understanding their perspectives. Without this understanding, finding an appropriate resolution may be challenging. Never assume that you know it all, be humble, empathetic, open-minded and don′t create assumptions.

When faced with a situation where a senior manager unknowingly made female colleagues feel attacked, prompt action is vital. Starting with a 360 feedback and personality assessment helped identify underlying issues. Engaging in an open feedback session led to productive discussions and actionable steps. It's encouraging that the manager has become more aware and committed to change, with ongoing support being crucial for solidifying this new behavior.

If necessary, engage a neutral third party or HR professional to facilitate mediation between conflicting parties. Facilitate constructive conversations aimed at finding common ground, resolving misunderstandings and reaching mutually agreeable solutions.

Dialogue is the best way to raise awareness about Diversity and generate traction for Diversity initiatives within the organization. I remember when I initiated a Dialogue Platform for Diversity, people were not sure how this platform would help. When we got a few people who expressed their thoughts on this platform, people started buzzing around the dialogue forum, and slowly, the dialogue paved the way for insights, actions, and drive.

Create a safe space, where people can feel at ease to have a respectful conversation around the issue. Show empathy for both sides, but ensure that everyone understands the rules of the game and mediate the conversation, so in the end people can understand each other perspective and find a common ground. Encourage people to use non-violent communication, where instead of finger pointing, the involved parties can express how they feel when the other behaves in a certain way. All the diversity and inclusion , Posh trainings should be part of the induction and mandatory trainings which all employees should go through periodically. Trainings help all employees to understand the importance of all the D&I policies

“Don’t blame them if you don’t train them” Are you familiar with that phrase? It’s a very simple but effective principle. The role of training and education in diversity and inclusion cannot be overstated. I would also add that these trainings/education must be continuous and ingrained into the company culture. Accountability is also key in ensuring compliance at all levels which helps to create an inclusive environment where everyone feels heard and safe.

In today's era, most of the larger organizations have policies in place. But yet there are certain fields or places where DnI is still a challenge and ppl do resist to accepting the change. I personally feel the need is to sensitize them, appoint ally/advocates to engage them and hire and provide safe spaces to the DnI recruits.

It is so important to have policies around diversity and inclusion as well as training for employees regarding the policies and what will and will not be tolerated. Employees need to be comfortable voicing their varied opinions without fear of retaliation. The tone at the very top of the organization needs to demonstrate that "we are stronger when we hear from people with different backgrounds and different opinions".

Inclusion is a matter of culture first and a matter of communication second. The organization as a whole must make a priority to communicate to its people the values of being inclusive and to give equal chances.

By building a culture of inclusivity, organisations equip their champions to address concerns, educate colleagues, and ultimately create a more positive and productive work environment.

By participating in these groups myself, I've seen firsthand the sense of belonging and support they provide to underrepresented employees.
