So if a candidate cannot be coached, or cannot receive feedback and then course correct their behavior, they aren't the right fit for the hiring managers I support. The candidate will either make a great impression in next steps in the interview process because they yielded to coaching, or we find out their EQ is lacking that much that they failed to be coached/developed.

Rambling can be a symptom of nervousness. However, I can think of a lot of disabilities that will be disproportionately making a person fit your red flag descriptions. This is why it is important to be trauma informed in HR.

I believe industry can also play a part in "risking" a hire that's lacking a general sense of EQ. Some industries and jobs can be much more forgiving in this avenue, giving an individual time to develop these muscles in their behaviors and communication. Whereas, other industries simply cannot take that risk in hiring a leader with low or (dare I say-no) EQ. There are a lot of people out there who take feedback and coaching seriously, and they are self aware enough to work on their behavior and improve. While there are others that never see the truth in the feedback, get defensive, think they are never at fault, or that it's always someone else's problem. Hiring someone lacking EQ, who cannot be coached can be a huge risk to the company.
