A fifth trend in power generation R&D is the application of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) techniques. AI and ML are branches of computer science that deal with creating systems that can perform tasks that normally require human intelligence, such as learning, reasoning, decision making, and problem solving. AI and ML can offer many benefits for power generation R&D, such as enhancing data analysis, modeling, simulation, optimization, forecasting, control, and diagnosis of power systems. However, AI and ML also pose some challenges, such as data quality, security, privacy, ethics, and explainability. Therefore, power generation R&D is exploring various AI and ML methods, such as neural networks, deep learning, reinforcement learning, fuzzy logic, and genetic algorithms, and applying them to various power generation problems and scenarios.
