What copywriting myths should you ignore?

I disagree with this. Copywriting is sales at its core. Yes, copywriting can entertain and build relationships with an audience. But it all revolves around selling. You have to get good at sales and human psychology to get good at copywriting.

You could argue that this is a myth. For example, you write a blog about how good a product has been for you, not because you want to advertise the product but because you want other people to benefit from it, but even if your intention isn't to sell the product, you're still selling the product. Copywriting doesn't have to be about selling. Copywriting is a way of telling a story, of communicating with your audience and building a relationship.

It is about selling, but it should not seems like this. You need to know your target, its needs, its goals, and how to craft compelling and USEFUL content to... well, to sell.

Copywriting is more than just selling products - it involves informing, educating, entertaining, and building relationships with the audience. It requires creativity, research, strategy, and skill, and cannot be mastered overnight. Copywriting is an art that allows for creativity, storytelling, and emotion, making it original, fun, and exciting. It can be used across various mediums, not just online platforms, and adapts to audience needs, industry trends, and feedback. It should not be confused with content writing, as copywriting is more focused on persuasion while content writing is more informational.

Bad news for anyone who thinks AI can replace copywriters. No program, chatbot or robot has as much creativity and imagery as a human. So it's definitely not about just giving a couple of clicks to a chatbot or just putting some words in a line. Although it's fun to read an article written by an AI, the real life shows that companies that replaced copywriters with AI ended up regretting very quickly and returned to the old form of cooperation with copywriters. So the robot uprising is once again canceled at least for the next couple of decades. And if you're a real knigth of the pen, most likely for a longer period of time.

It's not because you can cook that you're a chef and it's not because you can write that you're a copwriter. Copywriting takes time to learn and you need a decent amount of affinity with the craft if you're going to get anywhere with it. Seeing it as side hustle that you can learn quickly to make an easy buck is a terrible idea. It's not just about the writing, it's about: ? researching industries ? understanding your client's tone of voice and where they fit in their competitive landscape ? pitching for clients to secure jobs ? networking and building relations to maybe secure work down the line ? having a good sense of style and taste so you can identify what's appropriate, what sounds good, and what convinces.

Copywriting requires a lot of studying and research. If you do not like doing research, then you should look into some other form of work! However, nothing is imposible, so if you think copywriting is a good path for you, then you will be able to learn it... Just know you won't be perfect over night, just like anything else, it takes a lot of practice, and the practicing never ends - because new trends always take over.

Copywriting (and marketing in general) is essentially about understanding people, specifically what motivates them and what scares them. People are complicated! Therefore, so is copywriting. If you want to improve your copy: 1.- Invest 50% of your time studying people (sociology, psuchology, anthropology...) 2.- Invest 30% reading GOOD copy. 3.- Invest 20% studying why that copy is actually GOOD.

"Formulaic and boring" is subjective. Can copywriting be those things? Yes. The question then becomes, why? Is it the wrong copy or the wrong audience? Good copywriting is like a good movie: You're too caught up in the storytelling to notice the structure. Only with a movie, you have a captive audience. That's why copywriting frameworks exist: to help guide you in captivating your audience and prompting action. They're just the structure. The "magic" is on you.

Copywriting is so exciting. Paired with the right visuals, you can tell a story in few words. You can play on words and create puns, you can create content in the form of poetry to convey your messaging - the possibilities really are endless. Copywriting is as boring as the person writing it. It may sound harsh, but copywriting shines when personality and creativity are injected.

One of my favorite projects last year was a gorgeous brochure. I enjoyed collaborating with a gifted graphic designer to produce something worthy of being a coffee table book. Being able to hold my copy in my hands, and see it paired with thoughtfully curated images to tell a brand story brought me back to what I love most about writing.

Digital copywriting has its place. But traditional methods like flyers and brochures can be incredibly effective for quick results. I learned that copywriting is more effective in offline world. Don't get me wrong. It has is merits in online world. But when a small salon business is looking for boost in their sales within two weeks. It doesn't leave much space for testing. In that duration, two things work best. Flyers & brochures. And loads of them. We designed and distributed them strategically, speaking directly to the salon's target audience. The result? A significant increase in foot traffic within 3 days.

Copywriting is sales. Content writing is informational. The end. Also: Word count should never be attached to a project considered a copywriting project. If it has a word count, it’s NOT copywriting.
