What are the challenges of live streaming in low-bandwidth or remote areas?

This is a simple answer, hire someone to build it out for you if you are looking at doing h.265. Streaming is NOT cheap. You could go with the companies that already provide an H.265 and H.264 setup but you get what you pay for.

If you want to stream from a remote location, or any location with poor bandwidth, you need a platform and/or software that allows you to precisely control the quality level you're sending out. Perform a speed test to see how much bandwidth you have. For streaming, the upload bandwidth is the number to watch. It's measured in megabits per second (Mbps). With that number, choose a bitrate in your outgoing platform that's around 50-60% of that. That will give you headroom in case the connection worsens for a brief period.

Seriously, you need a dedicated encoder and dedicated bandwidth for live streaming. Anything over wifi or cellular will have connection issues with interference and or overloading on the network. You need an END to END solution and not something at the last minute. If your just picking up your phone to live stream while your getting calls at the same time, that is not a professional live streaming setup. You need to sit down with a pro to look at what you want to do, can you change up bit rate on the fly, can you go bonded or single connection? Are you using a house internet (hotel or other business) to push your stream.

Streaming protocols like SRT allow you to set buffers that compensate for poor connections. That way, your viewers will see a smooth stream, even though it might have a few seconds worth of delay. If possible, you can use multiple cellular hotspots along with any nearby wi-fi by using "bonding" services like Speedify. If you're streaming out to social media, take advantage of platforms like Restream. Restream allows you to send one live video feed to multiple social media sites at the same time, without any extra bandwidth needed.

Don't forget to hit record! If you're in an area with a poor connection, be ready for that connection to give out. If you're relying on your streaming service (e.g. YouTube) to record for you and you lose all connectivity, you'll lose your replay footage. If you record locally, you'll at least be able to post that replay footage later.

You also want to make sure if you are in a Remote Area, is that area a National Park? The National Park service is requiring permits to produce video content on the park land. If you are remote, how remote? What is your backup power system, will it work through the duration of your project?
