Usually relationship between a mentor and mentee is not sustainable unless it is mapped through a traction methodology or through linked with deliverables for the mentor. If you are lucky to have a mentor who is a creative problem solver then they will push you for thinking and working on different solutions, challenging the statusquo and bring new perspective. You will not just learn through their experiences but feel great that you will be stretched from your comfort zone by someone.

To find a creative problem solver as a mentor, I can look for someone in my professional network who has a reputation for thinking outside the box and overcoming challenge in innovative ways. And leaders who empower their teams to experiment, take risks, learn from failure on the way to finding solution also could be a good mentor problem solver in my experience.

Finding a mentor is itself not an easy task and the one with a creative problem solving approach is even tougher because people tend to align themselves with those who are in good books of senior management I personally, have not observed a very healthy mentor and mentee relationship because accountability lies with mentee However, you can use your contact matrix and have to talk to senior leaders about getting a mentor who is creative problem solver and can push your limits

If you are like me and tens to solve problems in some proven ways, having a mentor that is creative in this area is indispensable! Sometimes it's hard to comprehend and adopt the concepts right in the beginning, but once you unleash your creative side, the process becomes much more fun!

In order to gain most from this relationship you need to have a periodic connect (Recommended intervals are 2 hours per month) ofcourse it varies with respect to your mentor (s) availability This journey has to be objective in nature and I personally think that mentors can assist best in your leadership journey so excellence in leadership competency can be a good checklist to be achieved through this relationship

Having a mentor in creative problem-solving is like a brain trainer. But your personal mindset while problem solving is key. Think of your mind as a gym: being stressed, worried, or anxious is like working out while sick. For creativity to flow, you need a clear head. Be curious, and open-minded see problems as puzzles, and shut down the "too hard" voice. Instead, think, "Let's tackle this!" Let your imagination go wild. Toss out all ideas, follow threads, even if they seem silly. Have a growth/not fixed mindset. Silence the judge voice in the head that discounts the idea. Pick the best ones and give them a shot. Each challenge is just a way to strengthen your problem-solving skills. Always reflect and gear up for the next round!

Its about practice, and practice can help you learn , grow and develop as an individual and ofcourse you have the advantage of seeking advice from an experienced creative problem solver. Learning from his/her experiences is another consideration while putting different situational perspectives and having a focused discussion is another good thing to have

Guide them with questions that examine different ways to view the situation -- is the issue procedural, cultural, resource based or motivational? Answering basic questions about the make up of the problem will engage both left and right brain thinking.

Like the saying goes, “you become what you allow into your mind” Having a mentor is good and a great way to shorten your trial and error process. You’ll be encouraged to ask questions, think outside the box, and find unique solutions, making you better at handling different situations in work and life.

There's never a wrong time to welcome a mentor into your professional or personal life. For me, I've had various key mentors in my professional life who have not only taught me how to react to various situations but how to prevent. The primary things you can and should learn from a mentor are: 1) How to react to events you will encounter in your industry both with emotional and literal pointers. 2) How to prevent circumstantial events by setting protocols or boundaries in place or by practicing risk avoidance tactics. 3) How to be the best version of yourself If you are getting none of the above from a mentor, they are not a mentor. They are just an acquaintance, or friend at best. Offer support also. Be someone's mentor.
