It is imperative that the speaker remove all personal bias and avoid targeting a specific group when communicating with a diverse audience. This will support inclusion and engagement with the audience.

A famous speech starts with a clear understanding of the message that wants to be conveyed, knowing the audience and what moves them, followed by delivering a message that relates and connects with the audience, always being attentive to how the conversation is being received and staying flexible to how you deliver it, in order to achieve the desired result.

By studying famous speeches, you can learn how to harness the power of words to influence, inspire, and lead effectively. This may lead to a call to action. What is stated can bring about immense changes from a single line, phrase or quote that forms the seed of greatness to come.

Adaptability is important, but that is not the main thrust of what FDR's fireside chats were about. These radio addresses, which were not just listened to by Americans, but also by Canadians and others around the world, gave a beacon of hope to people who were trying to survive an economic disaster that caused people to become homeless, destitute, and hungry. Gee, sounds like what western governments are doing to their people today!

I agree that injecting personality into your speech is useful in fostering engagement. Whilst humor may be effective, it is imperative that we understand our audience and the wider culture. Using one's personal experiences and or jokes may not be appealing to every audience if not appropriately used. It is always best to sound sincere; that first impression of the audience lasts - and that is why establishing rapport is essential.

Personal stories and humor are great ways to connect with your audience. Adding personality to your communications builds trust and credibility while drawing your audience into your message.

One more important consideration is the delivery of our speech. It's essential to use our voices in a way that will attract people to listen. We cannot be monotone; we have to use our entire body when we speak. I love watching Christian pastors when they preach because they are fully engaged. They involve the audience, making them reflect, and they use their whole body to communicate. For instance, I once attended a sermon where the pastor's passionate delivery and dynamic movements captivated the entire congregation, making the message resonate more deeply with everyone present.

As an individual serving the Canadian disability non-profit network, it is a thrill to listen to "speeches" given by people who use augmentative and alternative communication, or AAC. People who use AAC, typically are diagnosed with autism, cerebral palsy, ALS, or other conditions, that prevent them from speaking the same way the majority of people do, and they therefore need to rely on technology such as communication devices to "give them their voice". Very inspiring to hear these people, who just a few decades ago, were unable to speak and were consigned to institutional living.
