Another method is by specifying the actual version as part of the request headers. Such as "X-API-VERSION: 2". Lastly you might also require the version to be specified in the body of the request. I usually implement one of the first two and find the header solution feels cleaner. However, if you are making a dramatic break away from an older version, sometimes I consider the URL solution superior.
