When a stakeholder hears research, usually they think they have already done that in their own. Here it’s best for you to shine a light on what value are you bringing to the project with your new insights. If you can show you’ve aligned with the client on it, through workshops and presentations, then you’ve achieve the goal.

Incorporating your research goals and questions into your portfolio can be an effective way to showcase your ability to work with stakeholders, particularly in research-oriented roles. Here's how I do it: Research Goals: 1. Explain how your research goals were developed in collaboration with stakeholders. 2. Emphasize that your goals align with the needs, interests, and expectations of your stakeholders. 3. Demonstrate your ability to identify the overarching objectives that reflect the stakeholders' interests and the broader purpose of your research.

UX Researchers must focus exactly on that, in their research. When building your portfolio, make sure that you showcase how you arrived at your research goals and what you were hoping to achieve. Often, this part is called the Discovery phase. Be creative and concise, and use different visual aids. Most people scan through portfolios. The challenge is conveying your thought process and condensing your decisions in an easy-to-understand way. Storytelling skills can come in handy here. Think about why should people be interested in this research. Show, don't tell.

Clearly articulate the roles of stakeholders in your projects. Showcase instances where you effectively communicated design concepts, rationale, and progress to stakeholders using visual aids, presentations, or other means.

Depending on the project, your research goals and questions, you will have used different methodologies. Furthermore, some projects have more resources than others. Be sure to incorporate that into your portfolio. When creating your portfolio, use your design thinking skills. What would a user want to see? Paint a picture of the entire process. The end result is not what matters most. Describe how you used card sorting, or surveys, or interviews. Include results and empathy maps, user personas, and how all these methods contributed to answering your research goals. Remember, if you have chosen a specific methodology, you must have a reason. Again, it's about showcasing your skills. Be clear and concise.

In this section of your portfolio, be sure to explain your insights and how you would approach the issues. Include your insights, and how you arrived at them. Show your work! Include screen-shots, figjam files, wireframes, and your analysis. Make it engaging. Capture the interest of the reader. Also, be sure to ask for feedback before publishing. It's not just about demonstrating impact through metrics (this is important too!), but also about actively collaborating with stakeholders to apply insights and create new initiatives. My tip is to showcase your involvement in turning those findings into actionable initiatives. Some questions that might help you think more about it: - Did you do workshops after the research results? - What happened in a short and long term basis? - What contact points were created with different teams? - How many new teammates were impacted with your research findings?

If you have results of how your research impacted the business, then you should include them in your portfolio. However, be sure to include before and after metrics. Explain how you tested your solutions. Did you carry out an AB Test? Did engagement improve? Was there an increase in conversion? Show, don't tell. Show numbers, results, and graphics. Be sure to include a section about, "what I learned, what I could have done better".

If you developed or adapted novel research methods or tools, highlight these as a testament to your creativity and problem-solving abilities. Explain how they contributed to the success of your research. Never shy away from taking a deserved glory.

Quantify the number of stakeholders or cross functional teams you worked with to demonstrate your impact. Rather than 'managed stakeholders throughout the organisation' Make it 'managed stakeholders from 8 cross functional teams' This goes a long way to demonstrating the breadth of your impact.

If possible, include testimonials or quotes from stakeholders you've worked with. Their positive feedback can provide credibility to your collaboration skills.

People do not trust commercials or expert advice so much. However, opinions provided by other stakeholders who have already benefited from your services or product are the more reliable sources of information. Stakeholders will believe what other stakeholders say about you, especially if the stakeholder giving you a review is a well-known figure in the Industry thereof.

I believe every presentation you do it’s a change to look on what has room for improvements. The way is presented will change even slightly, from on to another. The style itself shouldn’t be trendy, but actually something that represents your vibes, the way you experiment with design.

Your portfolio will never be finished and it will never be perfect. And, that's great! It should actually show how you are evolving as a professional. Make sure that your projects have dates, and include small and large projects. Ask for feedback from different professionals, not just UX researchers. You will be working with several other teams. Use language that is friendly to non-UX designers and researchers. Often times, HR will be looking at your portfolio too.

One thing I would add to the above is: don't make it too long. The portfolio is an intro piece, not the full story. I've seen a lot of them ramble on about all the data and all the methods. I'm no portfolio expert by any means, but from everything I've read and experienced - if a project attracts the hiring manager's interest, they will ask you to walk them through it. And that's the chance for adding more detail, rounding out the story. The online/PDF version should be concise.

I will also add that you Craft a narrative around each project to make it engaging. Explain the challenges you faced, the solutions you implemented, and the ultimate results. Use storytelling to emphasize your ability to work with stakeholders effectively, adapting to changing needs and priorities.
