In my experience the best way to show that you are ready for a challenge is to volunteer to take more complex tasks and get out of the comfort zone . That is the only way to grow and develop yourself .Also doing this voluntarily shows that your intention is to walk the path and not cut corners and also that you are willing to make an effort to achieve your goals .Be sure to let that sink a little ,don’t expect that your efforts will be rewarded right away , you still need to prove yourself .Be patient ,the recognition will come .

Finding out about areas adjacent to your IT responsibilities and both helping them in their areas and asking for their help in yours is a great way to learn more about your company and show that you can collaborate to solve larger issues. I was able to do this at Jacobs where I was assigned to the IT PMO, then "loaned" into the Design Automation program to lead several projects for them. I demonstrated I was a team player, a problem solver, and a valuable asset, which lead to a promotion.

The best way to prove you are ready for a promotion is by showing your accomplishments; successes, learned experiences(through some failures), and professional development by showing growth within and outside your designate role and responsibilities, that highlight your contributions to your team and the organization. Documenting the value that you create as an individual and showing how your strengths align with your next career progression, can help secure a promotion. ??Additionally, [in my opinion] remember that doing your job does not merit a promotion- as one of my recent mentors once told an old saying “what got you here, won’t get you there”. Focus on growth and value creation = recipe for success. ??
