One key consideration here is scalability. A typical scenario is that there are on premise producers and the goal is to provide this data to multiple and potentially unknown amount of consumers. One main benefit of using asynchronous messaging is that producers and consumers are decoupled with the main goal of achieving independent development and deployments. In order for the messaging system to handle new consumers without a restrictive onboarding process, we have a mirrored setup, where the on premise side has a single consumer (the scalable cloud messaging system) and all consumers connecting to that scalable system. This way I can easily lock down access and manage capacity of producers and use cloud security features for consumers
