One way to get started is through helping each learner understand how he/she learns. It may be through use of visuals, audio or through kinesthetics. When a child understand his/her own abilities and challenges, they not only get the required help but they are able to direct their own learning process by sharing their own preferred learning strategies.

I had a useful trick well-practiced as a TV news anchor, that also works well in virtual presentations and classroom lectures: I spoke in the singular, as if I was talking directly to each one. Example: rather than say ‘hello everyone’ — I’d say ‘glad *you* could join us’. That tries to let each feel you are talking right to them, even as they watch alone.

One structure that is under utilized is that of stations. When teachers are using cooperative learning, they have likely built strong classroom cohesion in which students work together to help each other learn while sharing in the accountability. When the teacher sets up at a particular station to check in on an individual basis with students.
