What are the best ways to prepare for the TOGAF exam?

It is VERY important to understand the exam structure, specially for part 2. Part 1 is like a traditional multiple question exam, dare I say easy. Part 2, in my humble opinion is hard, it is scenario-based. You'll be presented a scenario, often a long piece of text, followed by long options that are likely to chance few words from each other, so time management is key here, specially if you're taking the exam in a language that is not your native one. You have to choose the MOST CORRECT alternative, for they have a gradient scoring. The correct answer scores 5 points, the second best answer 3 points, the third best answer 1 point. The distracter scores zero points.

Part 1 & 2 exams can be taken separately but only in order. You cannot have Part 2 without 1. In case you take Part 1 of TOGAF 9.2 your will get the "TOGAF 9 Foundation" certificate and "TOGAF 9 Certified" once you do the second, too. The same for TOGAF 10 are "TOGAF Enterprise Architecture Foundation" and "TOGAF Enterprise Architecture Practitioner". If you are TOGAF 9 Certified, you can take a so called bridge exam to get the TOGAF Enterprise Architecture Practitioner certificate. There are additional certificates available for TOGAF. Some requires to have TOGAF 9 foundation certificate or higher but some do not have any prerequisites.

From my experience, I recommend taking an online course on a platform like Udemy. An online course allows studying at your own pace and adjusting your schedule according to your needs. After completing the online course, I suggest studying the freely available documentation on The Open Group's website.

Additionally its good to know and memorise the structure of the documentation because there could be questions in the exams where this knowledge is key.

There is nothing more satisfying than putting your newly acquired knowledge into practice. By applying what you've learned, you may discover that the framework you've envisioned for your hobbies is capable of becoming a viable side business.

The current version of TOGAF is Version 10. There are accredited courses available that are very helpful for better preparation. I also recommend making concise notes of key concepts and thoroughly understanding the figures and diagrams available in the documentation.

Practice with mock exams available online. Be cautious with the TOGAF 10 version; make sure to use accredited exams as many versions circulate with the incorrect format. It would be unfortunate to train with unsuitable questions and be surprised on exam day.

Practice tests are valuable tools that can significantly improve your chances of passing a certification exam. They can help you with: -Familiarisation with the Examination Format Practice exams allow you to become familiar with the format and structure of the actual exam. This includes the type of questions (multiple choice, true/false, etc.), the length of the exam and the level of difficulty. Always check whether the questions relate to version TOGAF 9.2 or 10. -Reduced Anxiety By knowing the format, you are less likely to feel anxiety on test day, which can improve your performance. -Motivation Seeing your progress through practice exams can be a great motivator, as you can see how your skills and knowledge improve over time.

Either physical or electronic, turning them into flashcards is an excellent option. Start by practicing in groups of ten, reading concept definitions and "guessing" the concept. After you get 80% of the whole deck, correct, then focus on the other 20%.

You can take your exams in an accredited exam center or you can do it online via the Person VUE system. If you take it online, you have to make sure nobody will disturb you as you cannot take any break. Your computer needs a webcam, microphone and sufficient internet speed.

Personally, I always recommend, if possible, to go to a physical test center to avoid any inconvenience related to personal logistics, especially if, like me, you live in a developing country. If you are French speakers and proficient in English, I suggest taking the exam in English because additional time is granted to you since English is not your native language.
