Volunteering for causes deepens practical understanding and demonstrates commitment. Connecting with mentors and peers through platforms like LinkedIn fosters a supportive network. Creating and sharing insightful content establishes thought leadership, reflecting the innovative community engagement in "Conscious Capitalism" by John Mackey. These strategies ensure meaningful connections and continuous growth in the evolving field of Corporate Social Responsibility.

There is a need to understand the need for CSR, their programs, and their impact in a country before establishing a network. Likemindedness and a clear vision of the professionals who are interested in learning and growing can collaborate and engage to bring IMAPCT into society. I feel among the professionals that there is a run for success through innovations, not sustainability. Everybody should join some common programmes to make it more impactful, not too many diversified programmes. This will only help to develop a good network. A difficult challenge, but not impossible.

There's something incredible about the creativity and passion shared when you get CSR professionals together. With the wide range of corporate programs and teams, professional associations provide peer relationships that help sustain us in our professional paths. The peer groups I have enjoyed over the years have been the backbone of growth (and sanity) as we collectively face changing tides within CSR / ESG.

Don't forget about Slack! There are multiple workspaces/channels where CSR resources and networking may be 'hiding' - try looking up keywords such as social impact or even human resources.

Events are a great way to expand your network and find new opportunities. And often you can volunteer at the conference to reduce the conference rate if you're paying for it on your own.

Let me give my example. I used to write articles for conferences. Recently, I had an opportunity to attend one of an international conference titled SUSCON at IIM Shillong, which was related to the team of CSR and sustainability. The conference provided a platform to interact and discuss central ideas regarding the existing CSR practices in India. Also, I could interact and build connections with industrial experts, practitioners and professors working in this domain.

Keep virtual events in mind as well! Besides giving people who do not have the time, physical ability, or financial capability to travel for in-person events, these virtual offerings are attended by a wider audience. Share your LinkedIn profile in the chat, ask questions, and don't forget to follow up with your new connections! Some organizations that offer virtual conferences/webinars in the CSR space include Realized Worth and the Association of Corporate Citizenship Professionals.

Volunteering aligned with thematic areas is a great way to network. Extending skill based support to the individual, community or institutions is a win win

Volunteering provides opportunities for personal development and growth. It allows individuals to acquire new skills, gain valuable experiences, and enhance their self-esteem and confidence. Volunteering often involves working with diverse groups of people. This provides an opportunity to network, build relationships, and connect with like-minded individuals who share similar values and interests.

Volunteer for a cause is an important step. For example I have volunteered for world beyond war organisation. This is an international organisation with many chapters around the world. Similarly I have volunteered for Friedrich Nauman stiftung political organization. Come to know many of their approaches to many of world problems. I can align or disalign with their approaches. But they lead to better understanding. I can act responsibly.

This can be through answering questions, providing advice, or sharing resources. Being a valuable resource to others fosters connections.

Implement CSR initiatives which can impact the lives of marginalized populations. Share concept notes of the initiatives on LinkedIn newsletters/ Company page newsletters, collaborate with CSR professionals. Workable partnership with Government departments will impact the lives of marginalized populations in India.

Actions speak to intent. The Qooluun corporate social responsibility acts deal with our cultural wellbeing as well as food security for Haisla elders. I trade for salmon, crabs, prawns, seaweed, and abalone on a seasonal basis. Traditional food that is scarce and expensive due to crown mismanagement. Our elders are on a limited budget cannot access or afford. Many are dependent on old age security because they did not have access to investing in pension funds. Qooluun seeks to ease the financial challenges of accessing traditional food that our bodies are hardwired for.

More evidenced informed approach, will help us move beyond the puffs of impact that many CSR programs tend to support. By capturing, important, learnings and evidence, it is much easier to influence policy and understand how markets can also facilitate better social outcomes

Appropriate evaluation, not solely reporting numbers, but qualitative driven impact has the propensity to make true change. While numbers show use, the applicability truly lies in narrative reporting.
