One thing I have found extremely helpful throughout my career is to continually develop and work on personal projects. This helps two fold, one of course is to expand your creative mind and vision by trying different techniques and styles. Secondly, this helps you hone your production and project strategies.

You'll definitely want to showcase your work online and through social media outlets, and consistantly update with new work. Also, continually expand your network by attending virtual and in person networking events. I have found in person is the best to connect with associates, future employers and clients. The biggest advice is be authentic, be yourself.

Starting as an intern or apprentice is hands down the best way to begin learning your craft. With that said, shoot for the stars, research and try to intern with the best in your line of work. Starting out, I assisted many of the top commercial and portrait photographers in my area, where I learned hands-on what it would take to be a professional photographer in the business, how to light, how to properly expose film (yes film, digital wasn't a thing), work directly with clients and stylists on set to achieve their final image needs. One of the biggest lessons I learned, and it will happen to everyone... when you make a mistake, or break something....be forthcoming and own it... learn from it, grown from it.
