So we need to reassess them according to their needs.

I believe that Making sure to keep all lines of communication between team members open is very important. This allows for transparency team goals, transparency in achievements among team members, transparency in overall teamwork and builds trust among team members. Because when there's trust, there's integrity. Among the group to uphold the trust that they have created, which will allow for more open communication and collaboration to get things done in a timely manner. But not only in the timely manner but as a team.

I would encourage the creation of multiple channels for internal communication, such as small and large team meetings, one-on-ones, virtual platforms—especially when the team members travel a lot, and a wide range of designated communication tools. This ensures that all team members have access to information and can contribute their ideas, regardless of their location or preferred communication style.

Try to imagine a situation where you need an answer from a colleague, being manager, but it turns out that he is on holiday. His assistant steps up and helps you out, but the answer is not satisfying. Later, you get apologies from the manager, whilst assuring this will not happen again. Now, how would you think the manager would rate his assistent? It will probably not be a very high score. This is completely wrong. The manager personally creates a bigger gap within his team. He should reward the assistant for doing his best to solve the situation and take the blame as a team. My advice for this manager is therefore: To create an unstoppable team, act as a team! Instruct and TRUST your colleagues whilst you are away.

In my experience, it is so important that people - either they're your line staff, your supervisors, your managers - they all want to feel seen. Feel acknowledged and recognised for their efforts. For people that go above and beyond, for those that go the extra mile to ensure a client/ guest/ customer/ the ownership/ the company is happy. Someone that cares. It is so important that they feel appreciated. Incentives, awards and bonuses are just some ways that coukd be achieved in the long run. But a "well done!" Or "you're doing a great job" every now and then also motivates team members. ??

Absolutely fostering trust and providing flexibility to employees is crucial. Not only allow them to explore innovative solutions but also contributes to a positive work environment. Chaining employees with rigid structures may lead to demotivation and ultimately attrition. Embracing autonomy is key to creating a workplace where creativity and job satisfaction thrive. Good environment with autonomy and flexibility is the main key to empowering employees.

What we observed in our team was a mix of people with needs that could be easily met if only we considered a flexible environment. Hence, we implemented a hybrid work model for ELT trainers, allowing them to split their time between the office and home, depending on their teaching schedule and personal preferences. This flexibility boosted their productivity, improved job satisfaction, and attracted top talent seeking a healthy work-life balance. Also, the trainers are hired because they are experts. Hence, instead of dictating a rigid curriculum, provide ELT trainers with clear learning objectives and let them design engaging lessons that utilize their strengths and preferred teaching styles.

According to Self-Determination Theory (SDT), autonomy is a key factor in motivation. Providing team members with autonomy and flexibility empowers them to make decisions and manage their work, enhancing motivation, creativity, and satisfaction. This approach supports SDT's emphasis on fulfilling the psychological needs of autonomy, competence, and relatedness, leading to higher intrinsic motivation and well-being. Allowing flexibility in work arrangements, such as remote work or adjustable schedules, further supports autonomy, promoting a motivated, innovative, and satisfied team.

Autonomous team is one of the most required assets nowadays to coup with VUCA enviromnent. It supports agile steps towards success and to take the advantage of market opportunities as fast as possible.

In my opinion, autonomy is important as this can support the team members to develop a great perspective on their abilities of making decisions without the fear of “failing “. It is important to recognise that although autonomy means allowing the team members to be independent and responsible for their own actions it does not equal to being “left to their own” . Team members require guidance in ensuring that they feel supported in using their knowledge and experience in creating better outcomes for the people of lived experience.

Inclusiveness, appreciation, fairness, and honesty come to mind with this one. Everyone wants to feel like they belong. Not being biased toward a certain gender, colour, ethnicity, sexual orientation or age. Everyone matters! Everyone's job is important. Constructive criticism deliverd in a manner that an associate does not feel like they're at the end of the world. Laying procedures/ rules and expectations clearly and providing the best possible support/ equipment and training possible so the team can achieve their goals can help build that Positive Working Environment ??

Create opportunities for team members to work together on projects that leverage their diverse skills and strengths. Promoting collaboration through physical layout, encouraging interaction and information flow. Organizing fun and engaging activities outside of work to build bonds and improve trust within the team.

Considering small perks like leaving early for genuine reasons once in a while, or flexibility in the timer for work when it is required and empathetically understanding the needs of the employees are must to build that positive work environment. Having a vibe of positivity where even feedback are mended as feed forwards of an organisation replaces negativity with a new book of positive outlook.

This includes access to a variety of workspaces that align with the type of work required, the opportunity to collaborate and interface with colleagues, have exposure to managers/leaders who are intentional in giving feedback, offering growth and learning opportunities and creating rapport, trust and community.

Offer opportunities for training and skill development to help team members grow and feel valued. Promote healthy living through different initiatives. Don't shy away from addressing issues that hinder motivation. Openly discuss concerns and find solutions together.
