What are the best ways to incorporate art into interior design?

- I agree! Also, getting to know your client and understanding what makes art meaningful to them. Meaningful pieces in a home bring so much more character and life into a design versus something that is only chosen for aesthetic purposes.

When I’m advising clients re the size and colours of the artwork I also want to partner up their style /personality as they’re not only buying part of your passion for creating beautiful pieces but reflecting what they see is beautiful .

As an artist I try and create different styles and 18 years on it evolves into different forms every year - Personally I prefer eclectic styles so I Mix and match high chrome aluminium sculptured art with old barn beams and you’ve mixed 1800’s with the 2020’s perfectly . It isn’t for everyone but whatever art design you choose whether it be discreet and classic to bold and unique , it’s important to know your client

I recently visited Portland, Oregon and toured some projects there. I was surprised to learn that the Oregon Business Development Department requires 1% of the construction budget of all new public buildings to be dedicated to art. The result was stunning - when art is considered early in the design process, sweeping, large-scale, sculptural elements can feel integral to the space, and help define it. One example is the Collaborative Life Sciences Building for OHSU, PSU & OSU, in which an artist used linear lighting to create a beautiful ceiling pattern in the atrium. It's a successful example of an artistic application of a standard building material.

As part of my range I’ve created functional artworks as a homage to My grandfather Christe Tallon , albeit clocks create a moving piece of artwork on anthracite or clear polished aluminium and a great complimentary piece of art in an area where you are unsure to put a mirror or artwork .

A good example of this myself is a ‘sail abstract ‘ in polished chrome aluminum that I created as a vertical piece of sculpture art was used as an ultra modern light fitting …it looked spectacular as it’s not something I even thought of

Always love this idea, changing a picture in beautiful rich cinnamon /burgundy/gold hues as we approach winter creates a cosy and warm feeling ….as spring approaches change the look with beautiful teals/blues / soft colours or bright colourful scenes to welcome the sun in - adding your soft finishings and candles /glassware in the same Colours ties it altogether

For me, art, architecture and interior design are intertwined. They have to be seamlessly designed in a multi-layered process and none of these can be an afterthought. The design process links heavily to cultural ethics, way of living, aspirations of the end user. An architect should spend the maximum time in the initial design process in collaboration with the client before the execution begins. Needless to say, it's a collaborative process till the end and many decisions regarding art, stylistic features, also evolve organically. But the initial design phase sets the tone of these decisions, including those 'eureka' moments.
