A golden tip that I always pass on to my mentees when we are working to get them a promotion: ALWAYS RECORD GREAT EVENTS. The good ones and the ones that went wrong. What happened, how did it happen, how did you cope, what did you do, why did you do what you did, what were the results of it all? When you keep records of these events, when talking to your superior, you demonstrate the ability to self-evaluate and develop. Which definitely counts for a promotion.
