Facilitated workshops in which team members are guided through a purpose discovery (find your “why”) and value-exploration process (finding their own core values) supplemented with activities to find coherence between individual and team values and purpose — this I have found to be the most efficient way of building true team spirit. One cannot expect people to be able to clearly articulate neither their “why” nor their core values. But if guided through this in a team workshop, these (often shared) values and purpose really build a foundation for understanding of eachother. And it makes it possible to have a shared sense of direction (a collective purpose) that can guide the team.

Exploring individual and team strengths by visualizing a team skill matrice and supplementing this with a tool to figure out when certain mixes of competencies are needed (whether for specific tasks, projects or other), is a way of engaging the entire team to figure out good ways of collaboration based on strengths.

La colaboración e interconexión entre los miembros de un grupo los convierte en un equipo. Para ello, la empresa debe tener dise?ados protocolos de conexión ; mapas conductuales; mapas de fortalezas, etc. Tener esos mapas nos ayuda a tener identificadas las fortalezas que pueden nutrir las debilidades de un equipo; ayuda al líder a comunicarse mejor con el equipo y construye equipos en los que todos están orientados al otro. Uno en el todos tienen muchos contactos entre ellos a lo largo de la semana. Lo estudió el difunto Marcial Losada en equipos muy grandes en IBM y en el MIT.

El líder debe mantenerse vigilante de esta creación de grupúsculos que pueden da?ar, no solo la identidad del grupo,sino también sus resultados y fidelizacion posterior. Antes de la crisis del 2008, la empresa UBS pagaba a los equipos de ventas lo que ellos llamaban los viernes de cerveza. Los vendedores, tras finalizar su jornada del viernes, se juntaban para tomarse unas cervezas y charlar amistosamente sobre el fin de semana y la semana que acaban de vivir. Los vínculos personales y profesionales que se establecieron funcionaron muy bien . Llegó la crisis y la empresa eliminó esta carta. El Director Comercial cogió el testigo y empezó a pagarlas él de su bolsillo. Estas relaciones extra laborales nutren y enriquecen mucho al equipo. Yo lo hago todos los viernes.

Actively involving team members in decision-making can be challenging for some leaders, who may see demonstrating their domain expertise and decision-making capacity as core indicators of their leadership competence. “I need to have the answers.” This mindset can undermine inclusive leadership. Shifting to a collaborative approach requires deep reflection on one’s behaviors and deliberate practice to form new habits that encourage team participation. For further improvement, they should learn to understand the strengths and limitations of both their own thinking and that of others, appreciate the diversity of perspectives, and incorporate these insights to guide the team towards better decisions.

Fomentar la identidad y el orgullo del equipo va a llegar de la mano de la cultura de la organización, y del ejemplo de las personas. No es algo que se teje en un día y parte de la confianza, de unos valores compartidos y de un pegamento que no se genera solo. Tampoco es la misión escrita en la web,... es la realización de la misma y su comunicación la que lo hará posible, centrados en una participación activa en cada espacio, en cada persona.
