Sending a message the same or the next day is the first thing you can do. Be aware that you should not come across as needy and desperate in the thank you note. If something important was discussed, you can also send a MOM. Use different platforms to have some conversations; if it's okay, you can also use WhatsApp. Connect on Linkedin. Do some research and find some common grounds to discuss. Make sure that you are adding value. Most importantly, don't be shy about sending messages while maintaining decency; you never know which one will click.

Personally it's always nice to receive a note from someone in your inbox either same day or next day post you meeting them. It's important to then follow up or follow through with whatever promises you've made (i.e. send that contact details or website you spoke about). This will assist in fostering a good relationship but also build trust in you as a person.

Choosing not to assist a fellow business owner or someone in need of guidance seems a bit selfish to me. It's common for people to withhold support due to the mistaken belief that helping others might somehow diminish their own success. However, I firmly believe that the opportunity for success is abundant, and there's a slice of the pie for everyone. Sharing advice, resources, or opportunities not only benefits others but contributes to a collaborative and thriving business community. It's a mindset that promotes collective success rather than competition.

Following up is important over the months and years, even when you he/she does not respond. Every time I log a contact with a potential client or business acquaintance (that could refer), I schedule my next attempt. When I hear from him/her, I can always reschedule my follow up, but when I haven't I know I will get back in touch. I try to come up with excuses to contact them, such as an industry event, news story that might interest them, or to ask for status of a project we have talked about. Personally, I will not re-send an email and am very careful about sending the same email to multiple people when the contents might not fit with everyone. My follow ups may be weekly, monthly, or quarterly, but I do schedule them each time.
