1 Define your threat model

When it comes to detecting and responding to cyber attacks in real-time, apart from having all the incident response and disaster recovery plans in place, having visibility into your environment is the key. Do you have sensors placed strategically at the points where you want to have clear visibility? Have you configured your SIEM alerts realistically keeping your threshold at the right point? and most importantly how well equipped and prepared your SOC people are in case of cyber attack. Don't exhaust your human resources with alert fatigue and over-documentation, let them have metal space to process the information that is coming to them.

Your actual training should consider multiple possibilities of attacks. Time to response and time to remediate are two variables that should be considered very crucial. Teams across organization should aware and know what to do during attacks. However, cybersecurity team are the main actor here in during attacks. They should be able to indicate the most effective steps to recover and to prevent further damages. These steps must be battle proven and continuously trained.
