Without those things, you'll never achieve the level of authentic and impactful collaboration you're hoping for. Psychological safety enables people to take risks, learn from mistakes, and try new things. When you feel safe, you are more likely to share your ideas with others and ask for help when needed. This leads to better results because it allows people who have different perspectives on a problem or issue to come together to find solutions. To do this, encourage open dialogue, reaffirm your organization's purpose and meaning, lead with openness, show curiosity, ask for feedback, and celebrate risk-taking.

Excellent point. Ask questions like, how might we solve this problem if we lost our largest funder... What solutions are possible without adding to our current workload... If you could only offer 75% of what we currently do, what would that be?

Hire for learning and growth if that's your priority. But take care with how much you mix any values into your organizational culture. A little can go a long way and sometimes too much can hurt a characteristic you've taken for granted. While the right workplace experience will nurture growth-minded values and help you retain that workforce, keep in mind that while learning and growth will get some people to jump out of bed in the morning, some people prioritize other things like routine, predictability, and stability. And sometimes we need those people who love routine, predictability, and stability. Someone wired for learning and growth will quickly grow unsatisfied in a role that requires doing the same thing over and over again.

Remember, you'll never have a culture of learning and growth without psychological safety. Psychological safety is something that can be built over time and requires a lot of work. But the rewards are well worth it. By creating an environment where people feel safe enough to take risks and innovate, you'll be able to reap great rewards for both your team and your organization as a whole!
