What are the best ways to create a resume that stands out for diverse populations?

My advice is always to use an eye-catching template having your picture. Since most CVs are sent through email nowadays it is good to make a colorful yet decent PDF. In terms of showcasing the talent for employers, better to highlight what you are best at and what are you looking for terms of career growth. It is also advised to tailor the CV according to the requirements of certain positons. CVs do provide an opportunity to make a good first impression.

The best bit is to write for your reader and not for your own eyes. Even though we like talking about our achievements however, is the other person interested in it, is worth a thought. It's essential to write a relevant resume because eventually you will reach the interview later but your resume will land before you. The crux - read the job description and research the role to understand the requirements and write a focused resume that'll make sense to the audience.

Craft a genuine representation of your skills, qualifications, and achievements on your resume and LinkedIn profile, focusing on measurable accomplishments in terms of dollars, percentages, or numbers to effectively communicate how you can address specific pain points and, ultimately, secure interviews with potential employers rather than aiming solely for memorability.

I highly recommend focusing mostly on accomplishments - how you have added value - and not so much on responsibilities. I would let your resume be mostly professional - but if you feel comfortable doing so- highlighting interests or aspects of your background that give the reader a sense of who you are as a person too.

I like to think of achievements as “so what” statements. Whatever you are adding to a resume or cover letter should answer the question: SO WHAT? Why does that example or experience matter, and how did it add value to the project, place, or team?

Sometimes, adding hyperlinks relevant work or projects can be a way to add dimension to an otherwise static resume. Links to portfolios, github, bitbucket, blogs, or publications can give an interested reader a clearer idea of your character and capabilities.

While it’s sometimes hard to quantify you must speak to what you accomplished in terms of %, cost savings, productivity, sales revenue, engagement, CTR, of course will vary based on your role. Why is this important? Because any job you have you need to have benchmarks and measurement it also demonstrates your ability to execute and deliver, strive to have at least 2-3 bullets with quantification for every role.

There are many ways to simplify information even when one has a lot to add. There are a couple of methods that help create that simplification. For instance 1. Where one creates their experience section in the CV, it helps to have an extract of each experience in a couple of words. 2. Visualise certain information but don't go overboard with graphics elements. This helps in scanning information quickly. 3. Emphasise Keywords throughout the CV, this too helps in quick scan. 4. Your extra-professional, out of work accomplishments are equally important, have some space to highlight those as well, preferably towards the end of the CV.

One thing I've found helpful is when candidates can back up with a story in an interview when they put their diversity-related achievements in the resume. Whether it is an area of your interest, or from your cultural perspective, it can spark a conversation.

When choosing an email, make it simple and professional i.e. [email protected] or namecareer@XYA .com Make a habit to check your emails regularly (including your junk folder), and add contacts to your contact list...so that you ain't missing any communication between you and your potential employers.

Your social media posts should be clean, not controversial and discriminatory in any way. Before posting think of what your post says about you and how it can be interpreted. I know of a a candidate who had a job offer withdrawn due to his controversial posts. You do not need to put your graduation dates on your resume.

One of the biggest issues I see when reviewing resumes is spelling, grammar, and formatting errors. Mistakes are easy to make. Have a second set of eyes to look for errors before you submit a resume. A resume full of careless errors looks unprofessional. Take the time to fix it. Also, don’t assume your computer will catch your mistakes for you. Word has a great proofreading tool but it definitely doesn’t catch everything.

I find it hard to believe that candidates still do NOT review their resume for spelling, grammatical and formatting errors. These mistakes may lead to you not be considered for a role. Make sure your email, phone number and other contact information is correct and up to date. Try to avoid using colors and keep it simple.

Make sure you tailor your CV for the role you are applying to (as long as it is all true of course!). Your CV in reality is an advert for your experience, so make sure you stand out!

The most important rule for a cv is first you ensure you add all important details without feeling the need to make a one pager (myth, imho) where critical experience, impact, keywords, etc get missed out upon. It definitely is a trailer to the movie that would be an interview that follows but only if the cv has elements of what the job description needs. Customize from job to job highlighting your experience authentically RELEVANT to the job being hired for or have one standard cv that captures 90-100% of your experience.

There is NO set rule as to haw many pages your resume should be. It is important that it is a true and accurate representation of you. One or two pages it does not matter, however if you are a senior executive two pages are a minimum.

The truth is not about whether your resume: 1. Is 1 or 2 pages? 2. Has a colorful font or bold or italics? 3. Has a column, table..etc? 4. Is it PDF or Word doc? 5. Is it ATS friendly? Your resume is a MARKETING TOOL to help your audience (recruiters/hiring manager) to assess your overall fit for the role. Which means you need to identify: 1. What does this employer cares about? 2. What kind of skills they're hiring for? 3. How does your previous experience align with the requirements.

that when cvs are manually filtered. with AI and software taking place of HRs there is no point in making cv so sophisticated, enough to tailor it to pass the AI filter and hope for a chance to have an interview. there maybe you got a chance.
