Long lens! My most use lens in these scenarios is the 70 to 200 mm from Canon. It helps if you have 2.8 because you can let more light in and it also helps if you have the image stabilized surgeon but you don’t need it. I also do this with my F4 lens. This is perfect for many reasons. First, compresses the background, so it is easier to make the event look busy if there’s only a few people. Second, because cell phones are typically wide angle. A long lens is going to create a photo that the clients can’t create themselves. It gives a unique perspective and add value to the client. I would say try and be unseen to be able to take those candid moments. Once people see the camera, they are no longer they're genuine self. This is where I would try to use zoom lenses so you can be as far away from the moment and capture the true, candid, emotions. Be aware and pay attention to everything happening around you. There's moments everywhere waitng to be photographed. As for the lenses, specifically for candid I stick to a 70-200mm or sometimes 18-135mm.
