What are the best ways to build relationships with mentors and sponsors?

Following on from the previous posts, you must be able to communicate candidly with your mentor/sponsor to build a trust bond between the two of you. When advice is given, following it, if you agree with it, will leave your mentor ready to continue supporting your activities the next time you seek advice. Letting them know the positive effect that the advice or discussion has had on your process of achieving your goal will also keep them willing to give you more input as needed.

It's all about self-reflection. What do you see for yourself in the future? Don't be that person that has ONE goal they want to achieve. Fixating on one thing shuts yourself off to new opportunities that open up in different directions — opportunities that you couldn’t have foreseen when you started out. You can't predict the future, but what you can do is question “am I doing something to move me to my goal?”, or even better “Am I doing something right now that’s based on one of my values or principles?” (TIP: pick the latter first). Think of it like stairs, if I do/achieve X, I will then go up the next step to do the next thing. Identify and be motivated by something that can pay off now. Keep your goals endless.

He neednt have time for you, but you need to create an aura that makes him turn his interest in to your presence. You need to be around him with the keenness and fervour that he is forced to recognise your presence

Therefore, a customised approach through assessment for more insightful matching and planning can be a great start. For more somewhat organic but intentional activities such as sporting events for the adrenaline fans, coffee and lunch meetings, a game of chess for the like minded or a plain old taken for granted one on one conversation. Out everything that has been shared, though mentoring is age old, there should be intentionality meaning have plan, goals/outcomes. Have a grand week!

Your first set boundary is to be like him. That understood u need to define what u want, what u need, what segment u need support in, and how u would approach your sponsor/ mentor and ask him to guide u in achieving your goal. If by now u hv sentisized him, and caught his attention, he will probably take u under his wing.

There is a delicate balance between overburdening your mentor from excesive contact or requiring too much support and having too little contact to where the mentor no longer feels connected or invested. It is important to ensure that you are keeping regular communications and connections with your mentor, even if this is simply an email or coffee.

Mentorship is just an advance form of friendship and if that is the case, then the two fold perspective is natural. One is from the mentee to the mentor. This is so because in life, the student really determines the extent to which the teacher can deliver and with the right attitude and characters and ethics and morals, many needful feedbacks will be gotten by the mentor to signal to him that he is not playing a loss game. Another side of the coin is the mentor to the mentee relationship. Although the student determines the limit of delivery of the teacher but the mentor or teacher also sets the standard for the mentee since he indirectly occupies the position of a role model to the mentee. So the right sets of instructions is important.
