I have heard many people say they dislike having their team work remotely because they cannot see if they are working. I believe this is a poor excuse for not allowing remote work, as it can be easily addressed by establishing clear Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Determine the outputs needed from each team member, and then define these as KPIs. Meet with your team weekly to review these KPIs and strategize on how to more effectively meet them. With this process, you can manage your team based on these KPIs, and it won't matter whether they are working remotely or not, as long as they are consistently achieving their agreed-upon goals.

Give them enough rope to not hang themselves and make sure you help before it happens. If it does, cut the rope and take advantage of the coaching opportunity.

Support your remote sales team by talking openly, trusting them, and letting them work independently. Taking it one step further - it’s important to recognise that there are instances where training and coaching isn’t enough, especially for new team members starting out. Managers should be prepared to roll up their sleeves and go and meet the customer with the sales person and lead by example on how to most effectively engage. This is no different for online meetings as well as face to face ones. If I team member needs help they should feel comfortable asking their manager to dial in too.

In my opinion, it is quite impactful if you give your employees the freedom to work without giving them extra pressure every day by following up with them. Try conducting 3 day meetings with them to get update on the prospecting every 3 days, this way they will have a deadline in order to give you some good news and you don't have to micro manage them which is a very toxic way to handle a sales team, regardless of it being a remote team or an onsite team.
