What is the best way to manage a client's unrealistic deadline?

It's important that from the outset of taking on a project, you have a very clear scope of work. This should also include timelines and deliverables. You should also discuss flexibility with timelines at the very beginning. I like to underpromise and over-deliver for clients. Also check the key aspects of the project to see if the deadline is unrealistic or can be achieved at a stretch. My advise is to set expectations from the beginning.

I have encountered this many times, what I have managed to do is break down each activity that is required to complete the task, and what components are needed to beat the deadline. Based on this, I can communicate and negotiate with the client based on the specific tasks that need to be done, and justifying the reasons as to why we may not meet the deadline. In other cases, I would present a draft of what has been done earlier than the deadline. Sometimes this could mean going out of your way, but managing the client relationship and have an opportunity to make improvements. The goal is to have an understanding of who the client is and what their exact needs are.

I am often asked to help with funding by a small business that needs funding yesterday and has no money to raise funding. Mission impossible. As an expert, I make a quick statement that what is needed is not possible. I then propose to explore what may be done with time and any resources.
