In a project usually the future features are defined. So I will imagine integrating the upcoming feature in the current draft and evaluate how difficult it will be. I ve found this methodology useful. Also the Open close principle. It tends to be use very early in the project. I go with <Don’t close it if we are not sure about the future>. kind of premature optimisation.
