What is the best way to ensure a startup is profitable?

All this while generating the first (very needed) cash for the business. Then (and only then) the startup can start implementing marketing & branding. Remember: a regular product well-sold generates more cash than a top-notch product nobody has bought.

Startups do not need to be profitable as long as they can raise capital from investors. By focusing on profit, they usually cannot sustain a growth rate. Any startup that has a product-market fit is capable of turning a profit, even at an early stage. Depende de la definición de startup y el tipo de financiamiento. Una startup debiera ser una empresa, empredimiento o como se quiera definir en ese sentido, que tenga un crecimiento exponencial. Esto, a nivel de flujos "orgánicos" creo que es bastante escaso o particular (si se logra). La mayoría de las startups al operar con capitales externos, logran generar este crecimiento exponencial, y la pregunta es, a que costo? Cuanto me tomara llevar este negocio a la rentabilidad?. Y ahí es donde muchas startups caen en el "dale, el crecimiento traerá la rentabilidad", que considero un gran error. Personalmente creo que si ya tienes el capital de trabajo, no veo razón para no poder crecer rápido y bien. No separar crecimiento de rentabilidad.

Essa pergunta é simples de responder. Toda startup deve ter um ótimo produto que resolve um problema latente e uma base de clientes sólida e que tenha escalabilidade. Além disso, um controle financeiro é essencial pra garantir a lucratividade.

“Profitable” is a financial statement/accounting term; I.e. not a venture term. The real VC issue is can you become cash flow positive? The smaller the team, the lower the overhead, the more easily you can become cash flow positive. Lease the cheapest space you can find, and the smallest amount of it that will accommodate what you need to grow. Being cramped is a good thing to build a startup team. If customer acceptance is fast, and orders are coming in faster than you can fill them, then you should forsake positive cash flow at that point to accommodate growth. Like all things that will only work as long as you have cash, so guard it with your life.
