What are the best tools and platforms for finding quality clients in your niche?

Focus on client avatar rather than niche. As a VA you can offer multiple skills and services to clients who are not industry or sector dependent. It is of course up to you if you want to only work within a specific industry however the majority of your skills can be transferred between multiple industries. Focus on the avatar and the type of person you want to work with and who aligns with your values.

I am niched by service and support rather than avatar or industry. Because that goes against the grain / industry standard, it also makes space for people who don't fit the typical parameters of how to partner with a virtual assistant. The best tool is your voice. The best platform is where your audience spends their time

This is a fairly large area. I think the idea of selecting client by domain doesn't fall entirely true for software application development. We are more bound with the nature of features, the technology stack used. For example if someone wants a platform in automotive industry and another one in medical industry they seem very different niches and they are. But if they are both looking for per user subscription, messaging system, groups to coordinate, task assignment technically they all become so similar that someone experienced with same features will be much more helpful rather than someone targeting niche like medical where one is related to user management, one is customer facing, 3rd needs HIPAA compliance and so on.

Offer competitive rates. It is important to offer competitive rates, but also make sure that you are charging enough to cover your costs and make a profit.

Online presence is of extreme performance indeed. Yet I have encountered so many big organizations where unhappy clients come to us after parting ways with them. So I personally believe that anyone looking to work with an agency should look for past client testimonials more than anything else.

If venturing into social media test platforms to see where your content relates to the audience. Different social platforms offer different audiences. For me LinkedIn has been the platform that has furthered my business. Having a website is a good idea so people can read further about you - Canva or Wix offer a free basic website offering. Don’t forget getting out into your local community can also build your network and you can gain confidence in speaking about your services.

Finally, don’t underestimate the power of word-of-mouth referrals from satisfied clients.

Make sure your LinkedIn, website, and social media show off your skills and expertise. Keep it clean, professional, and tailored to your niche. Use keywords your ideal clients search for, and don’t be shy about sharing testimonials or success stories. The right clients will find you if your digital footprint speaks to their needs.

There are countless online platforms and directories where individuals can find potential clients. Just remember, it takes time and patience. While you may have been a freelancer for quite some time, your profile is brand new to the platform, and potential clients may be wary if reviews are missing. A few that come to mind are Upwork, Fiverr, Reddit (r/forhire), VANF (Virtual Assistant Networking Forum), SolidGigs, PeoplePerHour, and platforms that are specific to your niche, such as Toptal, 99designs, and Codeable.

Leverage platforms like LinkedIn and Instagram for cold outreach. LinkedIn is perfect for pro connections, while IG can help you connect on a personal level. Keep it real—reach out with messages that show you've done your research, not just another mass DM.

Network Network Network! If you are not working at capacity and need more clients then block out time in your diary each week to spend either engaging on social, showing up to online or in person events. Find events in your local area, make sure to take printouts of your services and follow up with everyone you meet after.

You don't have to charge for everything. Giving away some knowledge for free can help build trust with your clients. Give them some insight into the value you can provide and know they will get more when they use your services.

Showcase your skills, share a How To, make a simple Canva template to share for others to use. Don’t be afraid of sharing your knowledge. The more you show and share the more trust you build with people and also they know that you can do what is required.
