It is important to recognise the communication style and linguistic choices present in other materials from the same client. A very recurrent aspect is the greater or lesser use of Anglicisms, which varies greatly between sectors and, very markedly, between the different countries of the Spanish-speaking world. It is common for Anglicisms to be more accepted in Latin America than in Spain, but there are also areas in Spain (such as IT) where many terms are kept in English.

One thing I’ve found is key to technical translations, besides knowing you audience, is understanding the field you’re translating for. Please let me share a project to translate a user's manual, originally written in Chinese (Mother Tongue) which had been previously translated into English, into Spanish ultimately. Active voice rather than passive voice. Plain language. Simple, clear and short sentences. No cultural references (Source Language/Culture & Target Language/Culture). Abbreviations with meanings. Bullet points. Consistency in the terms used. Cross-referencing. Pay special attention to appendices, tables, images and drawings, et al. Draft & reread, and put yourself in the final user's shoes with OA (overall) accessibility in mind.
