I do agree with the above. If you can’t identify who and what you’re looking for, then you’ve missed the first step. You should align your ‘needs’ with those who can help you or those who will be a lily pad for the next one. Look for the people that you’d like to spend an afternoon with. Those people will become your people, and you’ll be better positioned to keep the connection going if you genuinely like them.

There are many platforms and channels that you can use to network and connect with healthcare professionals, such as LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook groups, online forums, blogs, podcasts, webinars, and online events. If you want to make an impact online, you need to create a compelling profile that showcases your skills, experience, and personality. This profile is your online resume and first impression, so it’s important to make it stand out. To do this, use a professional photo that reflects your brand and identity. Write a catchy and concise headline that summarizes your value proposition and highlight your achievements, credentials, and expertise in the summary and experience sections. Additionally, add relevant keywords and hashtags related to your industry and niche, as well as links to your portfolio or website. Finally, ask for recommendations and endorsements from your existing contacts.

Choosing the right platform for your needs and in line with your background are important first steps. For example, in Infection Prevention APIC provides such a helpful platform for IPs to interact with more/less experienced IPs and even identify job opportunities to fill or to offer others. Other platforms such as LinkedIn offer a broader opportunity for all professionals to interact and exchange ideas and share business opportunities. I've met a lot of new grads or even experienced professionals who missed on this opportunity to create and make use of a nice looking meaningful profile that would gain them exposure and many useful opportunities. It's the modern way of thinking and interacting with people far beyond our local circles.
