What are the best resources for staying current with graphics content technology?

I've been using Skillshare, School of Motion and even YouTube to keep up to date. However, because there's more out there than you can ever learn, the best thing to do is to learn what you want and need to learn. For example if I know I want more projects with editing, I'll look into premiere, editing skills, audio editing and if I need to update Illustration skills I'll check out specifics on how to add gradients or texture so I that I can get the look I'm going for. You can keep learning, so always ask yourself what do I need to know and how can I apply it in my work? Then learn it.

Staying current can be both a blessing and a curse. There are leaders, fast followers who are perceived leaders, and followers, but in today's glut of information, styles, and trends, I believe it it is more important to understand the client's position in their own industry to see what is appropriate for their needs. For example, if you have a client that is selling a retro style product, a decorative or vintage logo may be the best solution, while tech clients may need something more streamlined. With all of the genres of design behind us, along with the internet, you should also observe every day applications, keep them stored on your organic hard drive (brain) for future use, and always be designing, even taking risks when you can.

The flexibility to move at your own pace and the one-on-one interaction with the instructors make online education indispensable for me. I also frequently visit communities like Behance and Dribbble to get creative ideas and inspiration. They are great channels to explore different styles, get feedback and showcase my portfolio. I also browse Graphic Arts and Computer Arts magazines to keep up with what's new in the industry.

Blogs are great for showcasing your expertise, educational purposes and boosting your SEO. I also love a good podcast. Podcasts are brilliant for a number of reasons: 1) They can be streamed anywhere. 2) You can watch as well as just listen to. 3) Outtakes and small clips can be re-used to monetise content or market the podcast

Having been in the practice for a decade I have seen many advisors and tutorials come and go by. Most of us are self-taught creators. Always learning by mistakes. Though a lesson learned this way will stay longer, but we need to go faster. One guy who has stayed on top and relevant is @chrisdo, he has a channel #theFutur. check it out. Do keep a regular update of magazines as well. Medium is a new platform is quite useful.

Alongside Behance and Dribbble, IG has become a great way to connect with fellow artists. You can select a few of your favorite assists and follow their progress as well as share yours. Creating a community with others can help in the long run.

Attending onsite conferences can not be possible for all. So attending webinars can help you to grow and understand the evolving demands and problems. Attending conferences will help you network and create better opportunities.

Conferences and events help designers meet and collaborate with each other. It helps beginners or aspiring designers to learn and gain experience for senior or talented designers

We are entering a new period of innovation and disruption when it comes to creative tools for design and content. To navigate these changes, think in terms of workflows and outcomes. Are there labor intensive and repetitive tasks you need new solutions for? Are you engaging within new media channels or platforms? What might be an area of developing expertise you want to claim? With those (and similar) questions in mind, you can focus on what emerging tools and tech offer the most benefit to both your day-to-day workflow and your creative growth.

Using AI resources to speed up the workflow is a good practice. Even major companies are adapting to AI tech in graphic and creative design.

Follow your favourite designers, study and recreate what they design then you find your own style. You get better at what you do by practicing. Just keep creating.
