I highly recommend that everyone reads "Reinventing Cities: Equity Planners Tell Their Stories" (Krumholz and Clavel, 1994). 12 planners tell about their proactive efforts to promote social equity in various cities, including Jersey City, Dayton, Chicago, Portland, Boston, and more. There are some really juicy stories here, such as Dale Burch's perseverance in proposing and ultimately gaining approval for a low-income housing plan in the suburbs of Dayton. They held 54 hostile public meetings, some marked by the presence of people with guns! This book is a must-read not only for planners and aspiring urban developers but also for anyone intrigued by the potential impact of city governments on social change.

The public administrators have the onus to not only plan but also ensure sustainability in measures of long-term vision, in every initiative they take for amenities created for the public, as well as approvals given to private properties. With so much AI, technology, and continuous monitoring data available, it is now more workable and easier than ever to impose and implement such measures and promote social equity amongst citizens with a sense of belongingness.
