Once everything is done, data is collected the most essential part is analysis. Because anybody can collect data and present it, the ability to analyse the data you’ve accumulated and build after analysis is the way to go.

One of the issues a M&E professional should pay attention to is that his, or her, analysis can actually lead to actionable measures during or after the implementation of the project. Filling up a report with tables, figures and charts without a frame of reference, is as meaningless as not having a report at all, and renders the whole M&E process useless. One example I've seen was a report on the improvement economic situation of a community, where the author of the report said that this proportion made this much money and that proportion made that much money. Initially, it seemed that the project made some progress, but in reality, that community remained under the international poverty line, and the project failed.

You meticulously compiled, analyzed, and interpreted your M&E data; the next pivotal step is practical implementation. Review results against predefined objectives and indicators, unveiling valuable insights into project performance. Regularity, Standardization, Communication! Monitoring is a continuous act throughout the project and should be done very regular. I prefer even on a weekly basis. Make the monitoring and especially the reporting standardized to make sure the minds are set to what they can expect over and over again. And of course, there is no decent reporting when communication techniques are not well considered, starting with adapting your reporting to its target group.

An important aspect is to have a project champion with authority and ownership. You also involve stakeholders to maximise buy-in to the project and ensure their support.
