In my experience, one of the most important aspect of ensuring security is to have a minimum baseline defined. As soon as you have that, ensure the following: - Audit logs are being captured - An audit log review plan in followed - Security alerts and events are notified to the administrator.

I supported Microsoft Defender for Identity for 2.5 years. The product is an agent installed on your DCs and LDAP Servers which analyze ETW tracing and Network traffic to generate alerts. The technology is really advanced and it's great at helping investigate possible compromises; however, like any security tooling, you have an issue with noise. I can tell you that your security team will likely become numb to the alerts. I had several scenarios where I looked at alerts generated by the tool for a customer. Where they saw just "Normal" alerts, I actually found a Remote Code Execution attack. You've got to find a way to keep your security team engaged and curious when combing through alerting.
