This will allow employees that don’t feel comfortable putting their name on a report, to still be able to participate in letting the safety department know of risks and hazards. Also, the operator should have an ASAP reporting structure set up with the FAA so that pilots, and others, can report FAR’s that may have been violated accidentally, and not have any enforcement action against their license.

An effective way the manager and supervisor can work to improve the reporting culture at the airline is to lead by practical example. This means that as a leader, communicate to your staff that you understand the importance of reporting all hazards immediately. Encourage that these are not just limited to safety hazards such as a puddle one could slip on, or a rolling ladder with a broken wheel locking mechanism. Make an emphasis to focus on all six of the hazard categories. Finally, look into conducting behaviour based safety observations to track trends for unsafe behaviours in the workplace. This could include observations such as a worker lifting a box using only their lower back, or moving two carts of material simultaneously.
