I typically use closed-ended questions like Likert scales to gauge attitudes, multiple choice for selecting options, ranking to prioritise preferences, and semantic differentials for evaluating attributes on a scale. One issue with the surveys is when they only count in numbers focusing exclusively on questions from 1 to 5. We need more qualitative feedback based on focus groups students evaluations. We need open discussion and the building of trust between the professor, students and administrators. Then feedback would be valuable and useful for all of us. We, as professors, can always improve and learn to do better in and outside the classroom. However, all the parties involve need to understand that knowledge to day is experience is learning by doing. Therefore, it is a longterm process.
