LinkedIn Learning is often my go-to for free training and development. There are so many courses with in-depth video tutorials. I had a client once who used a specific software for returns in his retail job. He hated retail and wanted to get out, but he didn't know how. I recommended LinkedIn Learning, and he found a whole course about the software he used at work. He studied up, then he contacted the company and pitched himself as someone who could engage end users to increase adoption of the software. They hired him!

Before you enroll for online courses, apart from the cost, make sure to know the level and content of the course. Why? Despite having a career goal in your mind, if you don't evaluate yourself, the skill or knowledge gap, you make vague choices between courses. As for developing digital marketing skills, platforms like, HubSpot Academy and Semrush Academy provide some free certified courses and are insightful. As for strengthening clinical lab skills, CDC and ASCP free certified courses are better. If you are a fresh graduate and want to enhance your basics in clinical lab skills, CDC-free-certified courses are best. As for ASCP, have some free courses that are specific.

The most challenging part for me is setting achievable and SMART goals so I don’t feel discouraged and have the self-discipline to finalize all those courses and watch all those videos. A few years back, I attended a presentation about rapid skills acquisition. It was based on a book by Josh Kaufman - "THE FIRST 20 HOURS," stating that you can learn a new skill in 20 hours. The key is to break down and understand what you want to learn into baby steps that lead to it. Instead of saying, "I want to learn videography," first understand the components of videography. For example, understand the “ISO” and how it works - this goal is quite realistic to learn and practice for 20 hours.
